So a youtube video author recently posted a video putting out the word that a new company called PCP ammunition was sending free samples of thier product out to anyone willing to test and review their new plastic cased ammunition.

http://www.pcpammo.com/

Well after a bit of reading I decided to try a few rounds and see what happens. The rounds punched down the tube of my bolt gun performed perfectly with the rounds easily within 1 MOA. So after a few rounds launched out of my bolt gun I decided to launch a few out of my semi chambered in 7.62mm. Out of my semi I had casings lose their necks and one round failed to fully chamber because the neck caught the chamber wall on the way in and ripped open/off. Groups opened up to 3 MOA.

So just to get the information out there, I would be hard pressed to use this ammunition again even in my bolt gun. I am in the middle of writing the company as we speak letting them know of the issues i had with their product.

And did I mention, $2.00 a round plus shipping is what they are looking at for asking price!

Here's looking out.

I have no problem with brass, I reload.......:D:

I remember back in the mid 80's someone came out with plastic cased 38 special ammo and was to be easy to reload. They required special bullets that just popped in. I don't recall the manufacturer's name

I got a free sample box, they shot okay. I never saw them again. I guess they didn't go over that well with the public.

I figure soon, they'll have caseless ammo out, I know the military has been testing it for sometime.

Speer isn't the only one. Wax bullets are really popular among the fast-draw cowboy action crowd. been looking into doing it myself.

One heckuva deal.

For shooting at home and practice, you can use regular large pistol primers. The competition guys use modded shells that accept 209 shotgun primers; little more zip and bang. The primer pockets are set up so you can load and seat with just your fingers.

Some guys buy blocks of paraffin and melt their own, with a little polyethylene (ziploc baggies) mixed in to harden it. Very similar to the boolits crowd when it comes to recipe and method comparisons.

I'm actually about to get into it; been reading about it for a couple weeks now. Primers were about $3-$4/box of 100 at Academy, and a couple hundred bullets and 2 sets of modded shells will only set me back about $20. Beats the hell out of buying factory .45LC at over a buck/round.

I remember that 38 spcl ammo from long ago. I had a box at one time, shot the same, but never tried to reuse them.

I know polymers have come a long way. But the point of plastic cased ammo would be making it cheaper, not 2x what conventional ammo costs. Thats usually what happens with these ideas, its touted as cheaper but never ends up that way. $2 a round not gonna be many people buying it, which means demand will never be there to lower the price, which means soon it will disappear. Since they are apparently making it for the military, it might gain some traction and eventually result in cheap ammo on shelves. Just have to see, but so long as its $2 a pop I will just buy conventional ammo.

I think it was Speer that made plastic bullets and shell ,for practice only..
The primer was the only power source , designed to reused over end over.
I bought some 38 AND 44 SPL sets, but I don't think they are available any more.

I have an Airforce Texan in 457. I've been trying to find shot shells. Thinking about getting a 3d printer to make my own. Perhaps solid printed pellets. Kind of want to try it.

BTW, Nerf darts are 457...

TC made shot capsules for their 357 and 44 Mag hotshot loads, hard to find now. I bush the 44's out to 45 with a 410 wad to use in my 45-350 Rem Mag. Awesome patterns. I'm going to try roll crimping cut off 410 plastic and paper hulls to make capsules. Speer had made some plastic shot capsules. 3d printing might be a good plan.
