JUST received a new one today. Received a call on the answering machine that it was Amazon calling about a questionable charge for $9.99 that was made today on my Visa card.
The number came in unknown caller and the return number of 316 9522519 was different from the incoming number of 316 7147694
I am sure it is a phishing call but if you were not thinking SCAM at the outset it sounded pretty good.
IF they had doctored the outgoing ID to show Amazon it would have at least had me pick up the phone.

I have also recently had a couple of calls from recognizable county offices coming up on caller ID with the right area code and prefix numbers, But when I make first contact .. while not being racist... I KNOW for a fact, my county has yet to hire a person with a noted Punjabi accent

Shared intel can save lives....

I have been getting Social Security and IRS scam calls. And a real one from a CC I hadn't used in more than 8 months called about a charge. I told them it was false and they now have canceled that card and I am suppose to be waiting a new one. Well at least I know it was them as my online access is very limited.

Emails from PayPal telling me my account has been suspended due to suspicious activity. Just click here and give us info to clear this up.

Funny thing is my PayPal account isn't even linked to that email account.

Up here for a while we got a number of recorded calls supposedly from US social security.... OK.. That is good for a chuckle...
For a while we were getting calls, both live and recorded supposedly from Revenue Canada.. (think IRS) They stopped with the live calls when they would threaten arrest for back taxes and people would tell them.... come get me...

One day I was in a mood and the live call was English second language obviously from India, claiming to be Revenue Canada....
I answered and when they gave there song and dance, I replied in the same sing song English...
How dare you do this to a fellow countryman ?
I haven't paid taxes since coming to Canada. Will this affect my free housing and welfare ?
Is you mother proud of what you do ?
Of course they hung up..

I miss 90% of the BS calls, I only wish the texts and snail mail could be bypassed as easily. I keep getting a text telling me my check is ready and to text (x) to (x) number to claim it. I block it and get the same message from another number an hour later.
I'm more annoyed this week by the number of BS ads (from a company we were think about doing business with) that turned up in our mail box. 14 from that ONE company alone, just yesterday.
I spent the postage to send a manila envelope stuffed with their BS back to them telling them why they are no longer in consideration for our contract.

I get tons of email spam, and snail mail junk too. What they're bad at doing here is going door to door. If you don't answer (I only answer to expected guests) then they leave advertising stuck in or on the door. Every time I go out, I have to declutter my door from all their garbage. I keep the ads in a box. If I'm ever looking for some type of service, I check the box and all companies who's advertising are in it, I refuse to do business with.

I talked to the $99 Amazon prime guy several times. I kept calling him back looking for advice on how to self breed camels. He finally blocked my number. So I called from the wife's phone. Haven't heard back from him.

I get the social security number stolen call too.

Somehow they use local cell numbers sometimes. When you call back who ever answers is clueless.

Someone here posted about talking about what color panties the caller is wearing. I ask that one a lot.

Being part time self employed and in management,I have to answer calls.

I agree with @Jojo. I hardly get any, because I don't answer any unknown number calls, and if a marketing call gets through, I hang up and block the number. I also know certain area codes I will not take calls from. The only ones I seem to get are web developers wanting to revamp my website. I haven't used it since I retired, so I just shut it down.

The texts are bad, though. I wish they could be blocked. I keep getting messages from unknown women saying they want to have sex. I want to reply saying that if they have some ammo to offer, I'll consider it, but I just delete them.

The most irritating call I ever got was from a lady with a very urban, African American accent (not that there's anything wrong with that, but it just didn't fit) saying that she was with the NRA (right) and Wayne LaPierre asked her to call me personally (right) to warn me that the anti-gun forces are coming to take my guns (really?). So she starts to go into her rap and I say, "You know Wayne? Personally? That is so cool. What's he like?" She starts stammering, because I threw her off script. Then I said, "Please put me on your do not call list" and hung up.

I was getting weird texts a while back that I wanted to block.
IIRC what I had to do was make that number one of my contacts, then I could block them.
Hope that helps :)

Last week I got an automated call saying that there was fraud detected on my wireless phone service account and to push 1 to talk to an agent. I didn't bother listening to the other options. I hung up and immediately called my cell carrier company who confirmed that there was nothing fraudulent with the account or activity.

Police fundraising scam. I thought it was the ME.

I shouldn't be saying this but I'm going to anyway because it's helpful and funny. I answer my cell phone the same way I answer my desk phone.

Me: " **** Pipeline"
Them: "Hello is **** available?"
Me in my most severe tone: "Sir/Ma'am this is a Pipeline company, do you have a pipeline emergency?"

Telemarketers and scammers apologize and hang up real fast when they suspect they've just called a number that they might get in trouble for calling and are woe to do it again. It's cut down on the junk calls big time.

I can't recall what all calls I have gotten. There is one that I've gotten several times in the last several months, starts out "Hey, this is Rachel, I'm returning your call about...." and I hang up. Don't even know what the scam is, but if they're so cheap they do it via recording, they need to up their game.

Got the one from "Mark" about my 'stolen credit cards'. I have no credit cards. I have a few debit cards from a few banks where I have accounts, but no credit cards. Haven't had for years. So I offer to pray for their lost souls, that they need to stop trying to steal from people and repent of their sins so they don't burn in a lake of fire for all eternity. I also ask them if they have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

I haven't heard from 'Mark' for a long time now. Maybe he did repent, who knows.

AS I previously said in another thread, I got one of those IRS phone calls and "accidentally" blurted out OMG, you found that ten million dollars in the Bahamas didn't you?" Over a day of calls where they were supposed to send me money so I could go personally retrieve the funds, they finally said I was on my own. During this time I explained I was with a big organized crime syndicate and they would kill me if they found out. After trying to recall me for about a day I answered the phone and identified myself as a homicide detective and who was calling? Never heard from THEM again.

I might have to just answer one of those calls as a homicide detective and start asking the caller how do they know the person they are calling.

I never answer calls from unknown numbers, but over the last 9 days had to, as my wife was in the hospital.

I got a reminder that my 21 year old Silverado warranty was about to expire, Direct TV constantly calling.

The most alarming is that I had to unfreeze my credit on Tues. for a new credit card application.

I had a problem getting Transunion file unfrozen, and had to call them to get it straightened out.

Got a text the next day from "Transunion" stating they suspected suspicious activity, in which included a link to page where I could get a copy of my credit report.

Luckily, I had already requested a Transunion credit report the day before, so alarm bells went off.

I called Transunion about this text, and the customer service rep asked me what number the text came from, and to read him the text.

He said SCAM, and I told him it was really odd that I had interacted with them only a day before getting this text.

I have also gotten text this week from a cash app saying I could get $1,600 for installing and using it.

Another scam text came last night stating my $1,400 was waiting, and they needed by banking account/routing numbers.

I get a bunch on my land line. The Amazon fraud is one, they mention a Master Card that I don't have. Of course student loans on both phones, vehicle warranties on my cell, IRS infractions on both. Another is Fargon Agency on my land line for a debt collection. The land line I screen calls 100%. My cell, if the number is unknown, I don't answer, it If it is important, they will leave a message. If there is a spam message, I delete it and block the number.

I received a scam call about solar panels for a home I have not owned for years. I kept asking questions to take up his time. When he finally asked how much were my power bills I told him zero since I did not own the home for years and then asked if he had any good car maintenance insurance plans for my 1974 Ford Pinto..., he hung up.

The standard script for answering incoming calls at the joint was "Federal Correctional institution Bastrop is this call in reference to an inmate?" I've been retired for awhile now, BTW. I still use it when I see a suspicious caller ID. Seldom do I get completely through before I hear a CLICK. Occasionally one will ask to speak to someone by name. "Is he an inmate?" It usually goes downhill fast. The longest I've managed to keep one going has been just under ten minutes.
