Part time jobs for a little extra cash flow

I'm thinking about delivery pizzas to earn a little extra...I really only want to work 2 or 3 nights a week. Either Friday or Saturday, and 2 other days m-th.

I was thinking driving pizzas would be tolerable. I dont want a "real" job...I hear the delivery guys do a bunch of side work at the store like prepping boxes and stuff. Im thinking if I could average 50 bucks a night, that would make it worth it. I drive an 06 elantra, fairly economical on gas.

What do you guys think? Good or bad? Any other suggestions...I dont want to rely on craigslist or something like that...I would prefer a job I could just show up to and skate through it...

a few years ago when my kids were younger I wouldn't have done it. Now that they are older, take care of themselves and don't talk to me anymore anyways I think I would.

I couldn't deliver pizzas. I tried that in college. I have a bad sense of direction and kept getting lost.

I do not know your situation but I quit my PT job because by the time the tax man and the gas man got done with me I was working for 5.00 an hour. Even though my wife may not agree with me I fell my time was worth more than that. It was a job that required specific knowledge and experience not just manual labor.

I had a 2nd job delivering pizza's back in the mid 90's, thanks to that job I'm still good at finding address to this day. :D:

As long as you won't loose a gf/wife over being gone alot more then I say go for it.

GREAT THINKING! You have a great moneymaking method and operating incentive plan! Many times that new construction scrap can be turned into cash & it gets the job site cleaned up. There is a lot of money in scrap/salvage. When I here of old buildings being torn down I'm onsite with cash incentives. Old doors, windows, fixtures and large beams are hidden gold.

I'm retired but sometimes I've found such great deals I'm willing to work hard for weeks. I've scored well offering to clean up old industrial sites and always bring the owner some cash.

Basically, you are on the right track by looking for a part-time job. But, I don't think delivering pizzas is your best choice.

You will be buying extra fuel and beating the daylights out of your own personal car to do this. Plus, I don't think you can expect a lot of tip money in this crummy current economy, either. And is your current car insurance going to cover you, if you are using your vehicle for something other than just personal driving? That might be an issue.

Additionally, there is always the chance that you can get robbed. Thieves know the pizza guy is carrying cash.

By the time you factor in all the real costs and the risks........you would probably do better looking for PT work at a fixed location.

Bad idea me thinks. Gas costs, wear and tear on your entire vehicle, low pay usually, and think about this >>> How many times do you hear of pizza delivery people getting robbed, crap beat out of or killed? Guess it depends on the location. I remember 40 some years ago the only real benefit for delivering pizzas (favor for a friend while gone on vacation) was being fed by the owner LOL.

I agree. I would not do anything that required me to use my own vehicle to perform my job. Its just not worth wearing out my vehicle.

I would look at businesses that are close by your home so your commute will be short. You don't want to drive 20+ miles one way for a minimum wage job.

You also want to be sure that whatever part time job you get doesn't interfere with your full time job. For example, from time to time I may have to work evenings, work weekends or go out of town on business with no notice. Having a part time job won't work for me because of those situations.

Besides the situation with my primary job, its not worth giving up the limited time I have with my wife and kids for a part time second job.

currently unemployed and really worried. Getting down to the low end of my savings. I got 200 dollars left and about 100 dollars a month in bills that need to be paid. Living in a friends basement right now. Haven't had a lot of luck. Considering collecting cans and doing odd jobs. Hell i might try craigslist and yard sales and upsale the stuff on ebay or at local flea markets. Any ideas? The job market here took a major dive.
edit: Did the pizza thing for a year. In the right town like a college town for a small place i was making over 2-2.5k a week delivering 6-7 days a week by myself. Stressful but it was all cash. Downside was they just stopped paying me and i couldn't find another job. Hence my current predicament. You can make good money, especially in a gas efficient car. Just be prepared to get screwed if you take cash under the table. A side job at best unless you get on dominos and that varies. A very good side job though.

If your good with your hands you can try phone repairs. I fix iPhones on the side advertising on Craigslist. I will Normally meet someone at Starbucks for a repair and it takes about 20-30 minutes to repair a broken screen. The income I make depends on the work I want to put in advertising or the days I feel like working. I will say that I can make your target income for a single repair and there is no shortage of broken iPhones to fix.

Instead of delivering pizzas, bartend. I know a few people who do it a few nights a week as a side job, and they do quite well. Some training and/or knowledge of the job is required, but different places require different levels of expertise. Brush up or learn the basics, and see who will hire you.

Well i did land a job today delivering newspapers. Downside is its 7 days a week 365 and a w9 form because i am a contractor. Nothing but pay, technically i am self employed. As for the dollar general etc, the two stores here fall in two categories. Robbed 6 times a week and ran into the ground by a lazy manager.

Thanks for all the great input so far.

The reason I am leaning toward a part time job, instead of selling goods or services on craigs list, is because I want to zombie my way through a few hours worth of work, and take home a bit of cash for my trouble. If I can pocket 50-100 bucks a week, thats 200-400 a month, and will go a long way to helping pay off some debt.

I have a normal 9-5 job that doesnt pay much but I like it so far, only been a here a few months. I plan on looking for something a bit better after a year (to reestablish work history, I was in and out college for 5 years after I got out of the navy, graduated 12/11).

Anyway thanks for the tips so far, look forward to seeing what else people out there do for some extra cash.
