I noticed with all the gear websites thrown out there, that nobody's mentioned Mountain Equipment Co-Op.

They're not a survivalist store - they specialize in outdoor activity gear. They don't run up the prices, cause they're a co-op (you have to buy a membership, which will cost you a grand total of $5). Bought a CRKT K.I.S.S. from MEC for about 2/3rds of what it would have cost other local stores.

Bought one of their "house brand" backpacks (Pangea 75) to take with me when I went to Southeast Asia for 3 months. It held up against 8 different plane rides (never as carry-on, cause it's too big), cross country across Cambodia, and boating in Halong Bay. Since then it's held up to another 4 plane rides.

What really gets me about their gear is that it's designed by users. The stuff just works.

They also sell MSR, Brunton and a whole lot of other branded gear.

Hope this'll help somebody find decent gear.
