Hi guys I had a question I live off Grid on 7 acres in a 5th wheel.I am trying to get wifi but the electric company says they cannot do it because I live in a 5th wheel. Also have had problems even getting power to my property. They say they can only run the power if I get a well permit. We already have a well that's permitted but it's on the other side of the road? But they are telling me since this property was abandoned for years it's considered as "retired" They have been giving us nothing but the run around.Does anyone else have these problems while living in a 5th wheel on land.

Ask a local well driller, to 'check' your well, and to re-file a permit for the well. Well drillers all have the forms.

When I first moved onto my land. I had a well and I wqas living in an RV. The electric company connected to a power pole with a 200-amp meter just for my RV and well.

We use ViaSat internet because satellite is our only option and ViaSat has slightly better reviews than Hughes. If you are able to get a cell phone signal, using the phone provider is generally a cheaper and better option than satellite internet.

Welcome to the boards.

Your state and utility might help with advice on resolving your power issues. Most likely the utility will not hook up an electrical service until it has been inspected by your local building authority. So speaking with the building department might be a better place to start than the utility directly. -K

We were told same.Called back and told em yep,got power good to go.Drove T-post in the ground for spot shot dish, ran cable through slide into nook by desk to router, ordered router recommended by service provider. On install day fired up generator, installer came out and set dish, connected to system and performed updates/downloads to activate internet and we were set. When house was finally built,Cat6 wiring done and network hub installed I transferred all items over to permanent home and working great as of today,no problems.

Welcome to here, we're glad you have joined us.

I hope you will enjoy this place as much as we do! There’s something for almost everyone who is interested in self-reliance, survival, and disaster preparedness.

Here is a handy "Cheat Sheet" to help make your stay here more enjoyable and productive.

Many useful links are found here and there on the site, but here are the most important ones right here at your fingertips:

The house rules: https://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=2

You need to make at least five posts before you have access to the whole site: https://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=8516

If you have a question about the forum, please post it here: https://www.survivalistboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=9

If you have a problem that you need assistance from a moderator or staff, go here:
https://www.survivalistboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=53 Although it looks like a public forum, all threads started in this section are visible ONLY to the person starting the thread and to the moderators/staff/administrators.

If you see a post or thread that you think violates a rule just click the red and white triangle at the top right corner of every post. It will send an email to every moderator and it will be dealt with as soon as possible.

If you would rather not see posts from a particular member, you can make them “go away” with a click of a button! Here’s how to work the Ignore feature: Near the top of the page you will see “User CP.” That is your control panel. Click on it to bring a drop-down menu. Look for “Settings and Options.” Then, click on “Edit Ignore List” which will bring up the panel where you can copy and paste or type the exact name of the obnoxious knucklehead into the blank box under the words “Ignore List ... Add a Member to Your List” Then click, “Okay.”

To remove a user from your ignore list, un-check the box associated with their name and click the 'Save Changes' button.

If you are in the business of selling stuff and would like to take advantage of our Merchants program go here: https://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=3797

Although you can use our search feature (located at the top of the main page), it is not as powerful as https://www.google.com/ or https://duckduckgo.com/. Here’s how to use the search engines to find all of our threads and posts about any topic of interest:

Just type in the term site:survivalistboards.com into your favorite search engine, followed by the word(s) or phrase of your choice, and bingo! There they are.

Sometimes when old threads are dug up and commented on, fresh eyes get to see them and sometimes new thoughts or personal experiences, or additional cited research/news articles get thrown in.

Or, you may prefer just to start a new thread. Either way works.

Jump in! We are looking forward to your posts!

Welcome from Texas!
I ended up buying a small place with an abandoned mobile home on it which got me by those utility issues for my RV.
For wifi, you may end up using an RV cell booster (I use Weboost) and also determine which cell carrier has the strongest signal where you are at.

+1 on this. I have much the same situation with my property. I used "visible" - offshoot of Verizon for cell phone hotspot.

Here is the review. I first saw it here on the boards.
