VERY hard to tell from the video if he was moving aggressively at the police or lunged at them. The LEOs looked closer than 21 feet, so if he made a lunge at them, that would most likely result in what happened next. A knife isn't much use in a gunfight unless you can reach out & touch someone.

morale of the story, dont get belligrent with the cops and then pull out a large knife and you probably wont end up looking like a block of swiss cheese, especially after you get stoned on weed prior to. I remember when stupidity used to hurt...there was a lot less of it back then.
