The National Rifle Association said Friday that it has filed for bankruptcy in U.S. court as part of a larger restructuring plan aimed at removing its footprint in New York to Texas.

It seems that the NRA has some strong talk, but bankruptcy has a lot of consequences for an organization. What do others think?

Not gonna lie, I was kinda hoping they were going under. The NRA has become more of a fundraising organization for itself than an organization that advocates for firearms ownership right. What work they actually do on a national stage seems to be arranging "compromises" that they then congratulate themselves for.

I wish the GOA had the NRA's membership.

I recently re-joined the NRA....................
They sent me a really neat, little back-pack..................
I was loading it up for a trip.... (my daughter's wedding).............
Looked at the tag inside...................YEP !!!
"Made In China"..............
They've gotten, their last dime, from me..............

Trust me.......... They got an ear full.........................

I have a 5 year membership yet I get notices that it is time to renew. I called them up and they said it was a computer error but if I wanted to renew for 5 more years I could.. Looking at the Shooter magazine I am amazed at how many Executive Officers they have on staff. My membership will expire.

I think the NRA members will be best served by having it completely beheaded. There are a hundred better coins doing better advocacy work without thr dead with of Wayne LaPierre grifting millions in salary and perks. The NRA is a mockery of its former self. GOA/GOF, SAF, CCRKBA, and every state and local gun club are better uses of your time and money

I feel like the NRA still has some level of significant pull politically and that most of the haters are the type who see one small thing they don't like and therefore condemn the whole organization as a complete and utter abject failure. If they didn't have any political impact then the gun grabbers wouldn't still hate them so much. I'm not saying they are or aren't dead in the water or that other organizations like GOA aren't better organizations to donate to. In the end things will take their course.

I wonder if they will have to sell that billion dollar ranch in New Mexico where they send their big dollar contributors for an all expense paid vacation and big game hunt.
2 of my 3 kids are life members. The third was born while their favorite son, Scary Harry Reid was on the ballot against an A+ Rated Republican running mate. Scary Harry was only a B rated candidate but they refused to support her against him because he had the NRA in his pocket because he supported a shooting range in North Las Vegas being built with federal tax dollars.
**** the NRA, they are political monkeys in a money race. Wayne Lapier is a money whore living on the donation fringe. They will never see another penny from me.

At one time New York was a prestigious place to locate a corporate headquarters. These days, it's just an expensive place.

Cuomo has vowed to put the NRA out of business, so I suspect the court case is another political witch hunt.

Rumor has it that Ollie North bailed when he challenged the way the NRA was spending the contributions. I took a look at the NRA's financials last year. They spend way too much money on advertising and recruiting new members. They should be spending it doing what members expect them to do.

Maybe it's a smart move for the NRA. But I bet they must spend a heck of a lot of money on sending people junk mail because I get a letter damn near every week from them asking for more money or or buy some commemorative edition trash and it annoys the ever-living **** out of me. I'm all for pro-2A but the NRA seems like a joke to me now. I think they could benefit from some internal restructuring and getting rid of Wayne LaPierre and Jason Ouimet.

If you call them and ask that they will not send you anything other than the magazine subscription of your choice. You can opt out of that too if your wish.

This is all very unfortunate and the perception or reality of a corrupt bureaucracy at the top of the NRA clearly contributed to this. There has also been a vicious non stop attack from the progressives against the NRA because they know how powerful the NRA is if they act correctly and mobilize their large membership. Combine the shady actions of the skunk and his cronies in charge of the NRA now that refused to reform and the vicious attacks from the left to bring the NRA down has resulted in a neutered and distracted organization just when we need a mobilized and well organized response to the coming full frontal assault on the 2A. This is not a good thing. But unfortunately the NRA we need now is a shell of its former self.

This was the lefts plan all along. The massive disinformation strategy that you have seen against other sacred American institutions have also been deployed against the NRA. Yes, the NRA did not help themselves which is very unfortunate. But know once the NRA is out of the way, they will be targeting the GOA and others. You always start with the biggest kid on the block. Those cheering the down fall of the NRA better stop the celebration and start circling wagons because the work to protect the 2A just got harder. This was coordinated by the left to take the NRA out in their opening salvos of this battle. Mark my words.
