so you are LEO in Arizona, you pull over a car for a traffic violation. what is your criteria for asking for proof of legal residence. if you were in Arizona and asked for proof how many on this board could provide it.

agree... no proper ID from a verified state in the US and when it is checked you will find out if it is real or fake... no insurance, no registration or expired tregistration and yep, then you ask for additional papers... I might even before i got to the insurance aspects of it all...

in most states there is no requirement for proof of legal residence to obtain a drivers licence or state ID card and there sure isn't one to obtain insurence.
Here in Oklahoma you have to provide at least two verifiable proofs of citizenship to get a drivers license, and sometimes they will require more. If you have had a license for several years you can just get it renewed, but if you let it lapse you will be in deep doodoo.

I bet if you can't speak English would be a good indicator that you might be an illegal.

there is no requirement to be able to speak english when it comes to legal residence, only for citizenship. anyone who has been in the USNavy can tell you about 20 year sailors from the Phillipines who still can not speak english.

I dont think thats true at all.

New Mexico and Michigan both require a social security card, a picture ID or birth certificate, and 2 proofs of residency (utility bill, lease, bank statement, etc.)

Whats wrong with profiling, it works..............go cry a boohoo on the democratic underground if ya think profiling is bad.

If ya got a car load of black sideways hat society trolling throught an all withe neighborhood at 3:00am odds are they arent up to no good and a cop worth his slat WILL stop them.

In converse, if ya got a car load of white punkers in an suv in the inner city drug area, again, a cop worth his salt know's they are about to score and will stop them.

If a cop observes 5 mexicans comeing outa the desert at 2am, only a fool or someone from california would think they were being harrased if the cop stops em:xeye:

if a truck has a gun rack and NRA sticker they are surely militia radicals plotting to overthrow the government.
If you don't hunt or shoot as a sport, then yes you may very well be. Don't know what you do for a living Taisdealach, but to be a LEO you would need to be a bit more intuitive. Maybe this will help answer your questions.

Definition of Reasonable Suspicion
Reasonable suspicion means that any reasonable person would suspect that a crime was in the process of being committed, had been committed or was going to be committed very soon.

Definition of Probable Cause
Probable cause means that a reasonable person would believe that a crime was in the process of being committed, had been committed, or was going to be committed.

The Difference Between the Two
Reasonable suspicion is a step before probable cause. At the point of reasonable suspicion, it appears that a crime may have been committed. The situation escalates to probable cause when it becomes obvious that a crime has most likely been committed.
