The article says

“It’s been a long time [since North Korea’s first nuclear test in 2006], so we judge that by this time (it) could have succeeded in making smaller or miniaturised versions of its nuclear weapons,” the minister, Kim Kwan-Jin, told the South Korean parliament.
The minister’s assessment of Pyongyang’s potential nuclear capabilities, which he admitted was based on “an assumption”, not any specific intelligence, far exceeds the consensus of expert opinion on the North’s level of development.

C'mon guys, gimme a break.

It is more likely they are still trying to make a ballistic missile to carry their nuclear warhead.

I doubt ehy can get one close enough to the US for an EMP, damaging levels of fallout or anything else tehy could use a nuke for.

Their best delivery method would be to make it truck size and sneek it into Mexico (by ship) and from there into the US across the swiss cheese we call a border.

I remember that when China set off their first nuclear weapon, Johnny Carson, on the TONIGHT SHOW, made the comment, something to the effect, that China can now nuke any city in the USA, provided that city lets them build a 200 foot tower in the center of the city.

We all laughed (me included, when it was repeated, to me), but look where they are now....They don't need the tower.

I must agree, Lone Star! right on the money! But, they ARE crazy and dangerous enough to try something someday.

I am sure our extremely well qualified Secritary of State Hillary can use her diplomatic skills well enough to find an peaceful solution to the hostilities. Besides Obama during the 2007 campaign trail assured us that contrary to President Bush's assertions, that Iran and North Korea were just little problems and didnt pose any real threats to world peace.

Old news, they have had it for years. Russia sold them the technology years ago. I knew about it in 2001. It was a concern back then even.

However, that is what our missile defense is for. Although it is not currently working properly since China launched a missile from a Submarine off the Coast of California and our missile defense system was non-responsive. lol

If this story is accurate this greatly increases the threat of an EMP attack from North Korea. The link is attached below.

I don't feel they could get one to reach here. Secondly I think we would blow it out of the air before it would be a threat. Us shooting down that sat was rather impressive considering they had such a small window of where they had to hit it to destroy the fuel of the unit to avoid decontamination. Heck the Israeli's are hitting Katyusha rockets now before they can land.

With that being said. Obviously its still a problem and I'm sure they do have a mountable war head thanks to China.

Any American that doesn't consider China the enemy needs to wake up. In my humble opinion.

I don't think Kim Jong Il would launch, he wouldn't want to deal with the retaliation, but his son who will inherit the throne, his youngest, that's like giving a child a book of matches and a can of gasoline.

They haven't tested either a bomb that didn't squib or a missile capable of lofting anything that far. And the kind of miniaturization they'll need to master takes a lot of research and testing and high tech to achieve. As soon as I see a test in the high kiloton range and a missile with ICBM range capable of carrying it, then I'll worry. Until then I smell bigger fish rotting in the sun.

Bush's assertion was using a play on words, ""at this very moment in time these countries pose no immediate threat to the US"". That says nothing about 4 yrs from that point. Bush knew this was a powder keg but had an agenda already in place. Its called passing the buck. In truth whoever deals with Iran and NK will not be popular presidents because its going to be messy as Iraq.
Should the US have dealt with Iran and NK before Iraq? YES
Should Iraq oil pay for the Iraqi war? YES
Should Saudi Arabia been forced to use their troops to defend kuwait? YES
Should the US back way from Libya and let the UN deal with that mess? YES
Should the US review all funding going to foreign nations? YES
Would it be political suicide for Obama to deal with NK and Iran so close to his election? YES
Does this put Hillary Clinton in an impossible place? YES
Iran and NK are to unstable to have the power of the sun.

In my opinion Saudi Arabia is in the most danger from NK and Iran. Those oil fields are very important to the US. Im surprised Saudi Arabia has not been more proactive in keeping the peace. Its obvious Saudi Arabians dont play Chess.

Why would that waste that kind of moneyt to really get that job done waste just enough to get the US looking at the threat of missiles and then sneek a bomb into Mexico and hire coyotes to drive it across the border.

They can get their bombs (yes they have developed bombs roughly equal to those dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki) within a few hundred yards of most soft targets they wish to hit.

what was what you said was in the buck again?...:D:

Honestly...In the field of war, there´s a LOT of weapons that noone is going to speak openly of. It was a chinese guy who wrote the art of war, if I remember. And if SouthAfrica had the nuke, and noone knew, before the apartheid crumbled, what makes you believe that NK or someone else couldnt have it?. Perhaps not the entire sofisticated weaponry or guided systems, but the old plain nuke designs are there somewhere. Any nuclear engineer could design his own toy. So better we don´t mess with them :D: . Perhaps Iran / NKpeople will soon eat their leadership in a national barbecue...governments hold together because people have jobs and sports and beer (lately internet porn has worked as well) but once some of this things are gone...forget about it. SHTF.
