This is a local ad I found for a Norinco MAK-90.

"I have a nice Norinco MAK 90 (previously called 84S model) in 5.56/.223 caliber for sale. Has an 18" barrel with chrome lined bore, threaded but capped muzzle, and the desireable thick 1.5mm receiver. Thumbhole stock, but it's the earlier more open style. Comes with six magazines (two 5 rd and four 30 rd) and sling. Round count unknown, but appears low. $550"

I have a Keltec PLR and a DPMS AR-15. I've been keeping an eye out for an AK lately and I came across this ad for a local sale.

Instead of grabbing a standard AK, would buying this one be better as it takes the same ammo I already have? Any drawbacks you all see?

I don't know much about this firearm so I thought I'd come here and ask for your advice:

1. Is it as reliable/rugged/abusable as a standard AK even though it takes .223/5.56?
2. Is the price reasonable?
3. Can I easily slap a pistol grip on it?
4. Are the magazines easy to find?
5. Will it be more accurate than a standard AK?

If you already had two that fired .223/5.56 ammo, would you add this one to your collection instead of adding an AK that takes different ammo?

Thanks for any advice and knowledge you can spare for me.

main draw back is that mags are VERY hard to find and if you do they might cost a bit make sure you can get .223 mag that will fit that weapon and how much they cost. other than that i cant see anything satoping you from getting it. since it come with 4 mags i would want to get 2-4 more mags.aye it would be a good weapon to keep, it is a good idea trying to keep most of your weapons in the same caliber.

as far as price its a bit high if it is stamped and its a bit low if its milled

my friend just bought a mak-90 in 7.62 for 500 with a 75 round drum mag included. stamped receiver model. The mak 90 is very well made and solid. the thumhole stock can be removed and it is able to accept a standard pistol grip and buttstock. for 550 id say go for it.

If it is .223 Norinco it may be a BWK92. I have shot one, and a 6" group at 100yds. is the best I could get. Some peeps may help a little. They say you can easily modify an AK-74 magazine to fit. I don't know. But in my opinion a Norinco is usually a quality firearm. This is a good firearm if all parts made in China, not a receiver by B-West.
