Back in the day, before LEOs carried double stack pistols with more rounds at the ready than my ancestor Lt Joseph (*****)'s entire Light Horse Dragoon unit had loaded in their pistols in 1778.....there was a term New York Reload,,,which was If I recall meant the service revolver in their duty rig and a back gun

When NYSAFE outlawed more than 7 rounds in a magazine (for civilians) a lot of guys were very upset,, I would have been too if I had spent money fora 14 round pistol

but to my mind, two 7 round guns are better than 1 14 rounder anyway,, if one runs dry or gets away from you somehow, (like you fell falling down stairs or something , or one did the jamomatic... you have not just 7 more rounds , or no rounds ..but a complete other weapon,

and for home defense etc,, you can hand one off to your wife, daughter , son or partner,

none of this matters much to me, I am a revolver fan anyway,, and revolvers can be had in 5 6, 7 9 and even 10 round cylinders,,and the law does not limit revolver cylinder capacity,

if you have one .357 loaded in 357 and one in.38 spl for the wife, that seems like an ideal situation for extreme anti social interactions, and that 357 is one of the few pistols that will penetrate a car door etc and you can practice cheap or hunt small game with 38s in it. and you can get a lever action Carbine that will fire either of them, 38s for cheap practice, and 357 for serious work.. ad that 357 cartridge , powerful as it is in a revolver, is 1/2 again as strong in a carbine where the entire powder charge can do its work

am I making sense here,, or if not,, I stand by to soak up ridicule,, being married 35 years with 4 teens,,, I am a sponge for it

just sayin..maybe the old ways were best.

I dunno, now,, re reading the law which is masterpiece of ambiguity, it seems ow to be saying only 7 rounds in any gun, incl handguns, incl wheelguns among them,

or course that rules out the advantage of many semi autos
but it also creates an even bigger problem with a 9 or 10 round revolver

and Nomad2 , my friend,, I was trying to solve the problem of complying with NYSAFE, while still having rounds at the ready without a mag change..

starting to look like a fella would need to carry a lot of pistols,,

could be done,, if a guy had enuff money and did not plan to fall off a boat .
NYSAFE totally rules out what you would like,, but I do understand what you are saying,, if it is allowed wherever you may be..

Back when I was in PD blue, I carried a 1911 in my duty rig, but either a Detonics Combat Master or Colt Officer's ACP as a backup gun. Easier to get and faster than reloading, they also shared mags with the belt gun.

When I carried a Glock 21, I tucked away a Glock 30 as the usual backup.

I also tucked away a snubby .38, just in case.

A spare gun always makes sense, not just because of the NY reload, but because of breakage, unarmed friends/family, etc.

good point whirlibird... always in my planning,, the ability to pass a simple to operate low recoil firearm to some nearby person, family or friend,

even if they are not accurate or effective,, they could send some slugs or shot in the general direction, giving me cover to move or reload..

and in NYS,, an officer can deputize a citizen if the citizen is willing

and no matter how expert and careful we are, weapons, long or hand, can get away from us if we take a tumble off a 12 foot high deck or are struck by a vehicle, and so on

btw seems to me I recall Sgt Preston of the RCM (movies ) always had a lanyard on his revolver

Agree! However, if faced with a mag capacity limit, I'd go with a BUG and extra mags/speedloaders(whenever possible).
If faced with a mag capacity limit you move. Simple as that. Stop giving them your tax dollars. People need to start letting their wallets do the talking for them.

If Virginia ever tried to pull the same **** New York/California has (I think all of northern VA would be strung up first) I'd pack my bags for greener pastures. I left Maryland ~7 years ago for this reason.

True.
As a country, however, we should help by
1. Refusing NYS and NYC goods... Don't support their initiatives by denying them our money.
2. If at all possible- stop using them for other things like the stock market, 401K's and other investments that they use to make their money off from.

Let them become the next Detroit...

In the almost 34 years I spent in LE I always carried a BUG.

In the first years I was carrying a S&W Model 19 with a 4 inch barrel and a RB Model 36 in an ankle holster. I ended up carry a Sig P220 and a Sig P230 in an ankle holster.

I believe in NY Reloads and I believe in BUGs if you might folks shooting at you.

I'd also believe in moving out of those Communist Utopias as fast as the Moving Van could get to my house.

To all those gun owners who live in the Communist States, Good Luck to You.
