$1 coins for the US have been out for what, 4 years now? And I have gotten 4 of them in those 4 years. Where are all of them?

Well I would hope that the $1 coin is cheap to make!

If a country uses a completely fiat form of currency, the cheaper the money is to make, the less "value" you lose to the currency manufacture process.

Not that I'm happy we use fiat currency... I'd rather we use gold receipts but thats just me :

I agree. The whole point of going with $1 coins instead of paper money is, it lasts longer and therefore cheaper to make per year of use. The ones I have seen are nice and shiny and look like polished brass.

Don't diss the copper yet. People are stealing whole rolls of copper wiring from power substations. That one roll could be worth thousands of dollars.

Yes, when copper goes from $4.10/lb today to $5000/lb, that one roll will be worth thousands of dollars. And the wiring I just did in my basement will make me a millionaire.

i see dollar coins all the time. making change from large bills at car washes or paying for mass transit tickets with larger bills. These machines always give your change with dollar coins.

my 250 coins arrived today. There were not as heavy as expected. Glad I got them for the holiday weekend. I'll spend them and spread them around.
