new theory is that we must watch activity on the Wabash fault line, and that this might be what caused the great earthquakes of the past, and not New Madrid. Hmmmmm gonna do a bit of research. I've always ben led to believe that the wabash fault was more superficial and not nearly as important as New Madrid. What do our resident experts say in light of this new theory?

Well If I see an earthquake light like I did in 1968 I'll be sure to post it.

Nov 9 1968 southern Illinois had a 5.0 or greater earthquake. Myself, my mom and one of my sisters witnessed the below picture while feeding cows just after dark. I'm not sure if it was the day before or a couple of days before. (It was a long time ago)

No one said UFO and mom said it was just swamp gas. Well as it was the color of methane gas we accepted it and went on with our chores.

It wasn't until 40 years later and a little research on the Internet that we found out what it was.

I still find myself checking the southern sky from time to time just in case the earthquake decides to let itself be known before hand.

There are other reported earthquake lights here:

I watched this National Geographic show this past weekend that had a segment about lights before earthquakes. They showed several examples including one in Japan.
