Hey guys, Chicagoland newbie prepper here. Just trying to acquire new skill

sets and maybe do a little soul-searching. I may enjoy a little hypothetical

discussion about what to do if TSHTF but I have a good job and a promising life

ahead of me. I'm mostly here because I want to live to a ripe, old age and never

fail to protect those who count on me. I'm very creative and I've saved my

own life a handful of times and I always try to stop people who prey on the

weak. I'm very involved in my church and like many Christians my faith is a

constantly evolving and maturing as it's shaped by my life experiences. I have

a long-term girlfriend who shares my dreams and ambitions and we're perfect

for each other. We're both in our mid-twenties and working our way through

school. Politically I'm an independent and I follow world events more then most

of western society.

Thanks guys, hope you're all having a good Sunday. =) I'm trying to find either an upcoming gunshow in my area or at least a good, reliable DIY for home defense against 2-3 intruders max. I have a growing collection of tools, a few hours of time on my hands each day, and about half of a $1000 budget to spend on this. Also looking for beginner's and advanced reading material on a variety of survivalist subjects. Any suggestions?

for gun shows you have your choice of St Charles, Kankakee or NW IN (Crown Point) ... they tend to alternate the dates so the dealers aren't conflicted ... Kankakee is about a month away .... Milwaukee probably has one also but that's out of my personal perspective

you'll need a FOID to even touch anything

It would be a bit of a drive for you but the Indy gun show is a pretty good one.

the Feds are watching the gun shows and in particular IL residents showing up at out-of-state shows ... a Chicago area guy at Indianapolis will be on someone's list for sure .... they tracked a Chicago banger supplier from that show and arrested him a week later for straw buying

I'm glad they caught that guy and I hope he does some time. Assuming one does not intend to break the law, I would recommend the Indy show as it is one of the best I know of in the area. As for being on lists... I myself refuse to alter the exercise of my freedom just because I might end up on a list. If I did, then they would probably put me on the list of "people who never leave the house".
