Ok, so I just finished up this little project today, aside from a CTR stock and riser that are still in the mail. Nice little companion to my PSL to help eat up some of the tons of x54 ammo sitting here.

Vepr 7.62x54 20"

- SGM railed handguard
- Midwest Industries 30mm scope mount
- Leupold MK4 1.5-5x SPR scope
- Bonesteel arms folding stock
- magpul stock

Going to have the pinned thread protector taken off so I can add my QD suppressor mount, aside from that i'm happy with it.

That is awesome. How does it shoot? I'm really interested in the VEPR x54r for the same reason you have.

Also if you don't mind how much do you have in the gun I really like your set up.
Minus scope and mount I would say around a thousand bucks, including rails, folder and stock. mainly because the 20" 7.62x54 straight back receiver guns are hard to find now. I had been looking for a straight back 20" with gas block/FSB combo for almost a year, finally found one on gunbroker. Center fire stopped selling them and Atlantic switched to slant cut receivers with separate sights from the gas block.

Nice set up! I've wanted to do one with a melonited match barrel(for corrosion resistance). How hard is it to clean? The melonited barrel would add a lot of cost and time and I'm not sure it's worth it. What's your take as someone who has a VEPR and shoots surplus through it?

I have two 5.45 ARs I built with melonited barrels and I love them. If starting with a fresh build I would go with them every time, but I don't think it would be worth the effort to rebarrel anything using one unless you are seriously looking for accuracy, at which point you shouldn't be shooting corrosive surplus. I just clean them with hot soapy water and hit them with some ballistol.
