I just got an e-mail from a friend...

For all of you who are unfamiliar with a web site called unclaimed.org it is a state treasurer site that holds unclaimed money it could be overpayments, unclaimed insurance policies etc. Dateline did a piece on this a few years ago. My Dad passed away 31/2 years ago. I have found several claims over the last few years in my Dads name amounting to about $3000. Over the summer I found another claim. Yesterday my Mom received a check for $10,300.00 from an insurance policy. It is worth checking out.

Well, I did just check it out and found the state of California owes me $88.00!

Same type of thing in Canada run by the Bank of Canada.

Unclaimed deposits from all banks eventually end up there for a holding period of many decades.

i just found some money in oklahoma for me, as of now i only know it was over 100 bucks. Cant wait to see what it is from since i was not employed while i lived there .

My Parents used this a few years back and found a security deposit from the power company from when I was a kid

Does it seem weird to anyone else that all the funds are just floating around waiting for people to claim them. If all the debts got paid back to person making the claim would that put us further into the whole as a country? Or is everyone just really nice and setting aside the money in a account so that it may not be used incase the legal owner comes to collect.
