Traditionally I am an Open Sight or Red Dot kinda guy.

I am buying a Savage Model 10 FP-SR .223 and I was wondering what power optic would be best for that caliber up to and including 600 yards.

I am already sold on the caliber, but any other advice is appreciated. Thanks.

You don't need super high magnification, but you should spend as much as you can on glass. It will probably be pretty tough to see hits on paper at 600 yards...if you plan on shooting 223 to 600 yards...do yourself a favor and start buying steel. You might not see the hits, but you will hear the hits.

Include your budget on glass and you will get recommendations based on your budget. You can spend $30-2,500+ on optics.

What will this rifles main target be?...General purpose shooting to 600 yds. or so you will need something in the 6x range......prairie dogs, predators etc....I would suggest something in the 10x to 12x as a starting point.

Well, for my AR15 I have an EOTech 557. It has mil dots from 0 to 300, 4,5,600 yards. I was wondering if there were any scopes out there that had those dots with better magnification. So the answer to "002S's" question is, no I wont be shooting out there all the time. IT will vary. Thanks for the replies.
