Need a mess kit and sleping bag

The only "sleeping bag" I know of that sounds like that is the Ranger Roll.
It's a USGI Poncho with a Poncho liner attached and then folded over and snapped so that it makes a light duty sleeping bag.
You could make an old fashioned "bed roll" with blankets and a tarp.
My most compact cook kit is a USGI canteen with cover, canteen cup and stove. For cooking fish and cornpone the USGI mess kit works fine and is compact.
Both the canteen cup and mess kit have been made in aluminum or stainless steel.

Go to REI in Denver or Colorado Springs and check them out. They have tons and you can see them first hand before you buy.

Check your local Goodwill or thrift store, I picked up one of those 'looks like a flying saucer, pot pan and bowl all inside one another' aluminum mess kits for a dollar. It was well broken in, but clean and usable...

Since the OP says "lightweight & compact" I assume he means "not terribly warm" & "small".
The Snugpak Jungle bag is rated to soething like 40* and compresses to about the size of a half a loaf of bread. With a fleece liner and a wool hat you could probably survive to freezing temps.
There are endless mess kits of all sizes and quality to be had. The cheapo Coleman brands are small but almost disposable cookware. I have a Brittish 2 piece mess kit I really like- the 2 halves fit over each other and hold over a quart each. About 7 x 5 x 2 inches, made of aluminium with wire handles. A canteen cup or stainless Nalgene bottle cup will take up almost zero room as they slip right over whatever water carrier you are using. Don't get much more compact than that.

People always show cup on bottom of water bottle.
I wonder why they don't buy two, one for top and bottom.
I took the Max cookset and used the small set with a small water bottle.
Then used the larger set with a larger water bottle.

A very cheap mess kit can be had by getting one or two stainless steel dog dishes. They are small and light and cheap, and cook like a deep frying pan.
Also check out the local thrift stores, and look on craig's list and in the phone book. There is a thrift store near here that only sells outdoor sports gear, prices are cheap! It's been here for years, but is on a side street and I never knew about it until I ran across it in the yellow pages.
