I made my own version of that from aluminum but I like your Choate version much better.

Mounting permanently to the receiver via something like that is IMO the only way to get the best accuracy from the SKS. I've tried the removable receiver cover style mounts and they don't give you permanent stability.

You might want to mount a shell deflector also...
I had a scope like that on mine and it got a little chewed up from the shells
ejecting so I went with a shorter scope, now I'm no gun expert, just speaking from experience

i will just wrap the scope in pipe foam or something along that nature.

Nice mount there recklessdriver,I've had a Choate on my Yugo for several years,it will serve you well.

That's a good solid mount. Glad to see a few people with the sense to avoid those silly receiver and gas tube cover mounts. The Choate is a better choice than the ATI version too.
