Well perfect for me.

My criteria for this build: Reputable make, light weight, short, night sight, and Tac light. To me that is the best criteria for a home defense shotgun.

The shotgun is a 14inch Mossberg 590A1.

Stock ATI 12 LOP adjustable to 14. I was apprehensive at first with the ATI stuff but I handled the stock in person and it seemed to be built well.

Forend Grip also ATI all Aluminum Talon with picatinny rail attachments. I purchased this one because I can swap in to my 1300 or 870 with the adapter kit that came with it, very light and solid piece. I have the surefire forend coming in for a 870 SBS build.

The sight is a Tru-Glo Tritium fiber optic combination, aluminum. Very bright.

The light is a Surefire X400, I had no intentions of going with the X400 until a deal came along and I picked it up cheaper then a X300. This light is amazing, incredibly bright 170 lumens and very clear laser, top notch Surefire as usual.

Here are some pics with HK45 full size for scale.

This is my HD firearm. It needs a light though. I have pepper spray as a non-lethal defense option. Hard to carry a light and the bottle. Incase the perps are unarmed, my dog is fighting a wild animal, or the perp is too close to a friendly. NY is a finicky state about lethal defense, so I think it's good to have a non-lethal option available.

That front bead is up there a good bit, I could imagine aiming at longer distances to be somehwat of a problem, if needed to.

Ever consider adding a simple v-notch type rear sight to it? Something like the XS system rear sight?
I have used a similar sight set up to the xs and ghost sights. The set up you see above has been the sight set-up choice for me for awhile. I hit my targets.;)

Depending on how slick the forearm is, you might consider put a small piece of grip tape somewhere along the bottom. That would help you work the action one handed against your leg or something else if you end up needing to shoot that way.

Looks like a sweet gun. I think 12-14 inches is perfect... you could turn in most hallways and quarter through doorways without having to drop sight.

I like to use a two point single strap tactical sling on my mossberg. There are zip pulls to sinch it up to your chest when you need to free your hands up for non-leathals or control tactics. When it's loose it smoothly shoulders but also drapes across the chest when need be.:thumb:

So far I have had no issues with it being slick.
