So I finally broke down and bought Ka-Bar Becker BK2 Campanion. I was getting tired of scratching up my more expensive knives. One thing I loved about this knife was the hollowed out handles. Tonight I wrapped the sheath in about 15 ft of paracord and added contents to the inside of the scales (handles).

Contents in handles:
- 9 fly fishing flies. Mix of dry flies and a few nymphs
- 15 ft (two 7.5 ft spools) of tapered fishing line. 5 lb test
- 4 "strik indicators" (floats) for fishing
- 6 generic waterproof matches
- strip of striking material from match box
- good size chunk of dryer lint compressed for kindling
* few feet of wire for snares. To be added soon.

Below are pictures showing the items being added and when finished. Nothing rattles around inside due to the floats and lint keeping things in place. I love the weight of this knife! Definitely feels indistructible.

What do you think? Anything else I should fit in there? Think I will wind up stripping the paint.

My name is NOT Kevin :D: but I suggest you NOT remove the black finish. There is no good reason to remove a perfectly good protective finish from a rust-prone steel, especially an expensive piece of survival equipment.
Had Ka-Bar sold it without a finish, we'd have threads talking about what a bunch of boneheads they were, and then asking questions like,"Should I have my BK2 chrome plated,Parkerized or Dura-Koted"?? Yeah, that's right, you know it's true !!! ;)

I agree with Big Donads - you need to have that allen wrench - OR - I'd suggest changing the bolts to regular slot headed bolts... that way you can always find something flat to use to unscrew the bolts.

How about changing out the lanyard for one with some ranger pace beads? I've been thinking that a plain ferro rod put into a hole drilled from the end of the scales would be a handy spot for it, maybe secured with a little duct tape or dab of silicone until you NEED it.

How do you remove the handles when you need in this emergency kit? You have to carry the proper allen all the time for this to work.
I normally make these Paracord Ferro Lanyards for knives;

I had a customer request I do the same for an Allen Key so he could tighten down the handles if they became loose.
