I don't choose my films by their music. As a matter of fact I rarely notice the music until I've seen the movie several times. I have a pretty wide genre spread on my fave movies. Everything from Carey Grant's Father Goose to Aliens. Richard Gere in Shall We Dance to Serenity (and the short-lived series Firefly that goes with it). If I ever meet Harrison Ford I intend to kiss him for Hanover Street and slap him for Mosquito Coast. And don't forget the tasty little-known Almost Famous. A little charmer where the music IS important.

Many of the classic 50s/60s B BEM movies (BEM - Bug Eyed Monster)

Many of the modern action adventure films such as:
Romancing The Stone
Star Wars series
Indiana Jones series
Crocodile Dundee series
Tremors series

Many of the Sci-Fi/SyFy channel Saturday night BEM movies including:
The Sharknado series
The various snake, crocodile, shark, and similar movies

Other BEM/Dinosaur/Creature movies such as:
Lake Placid series
Mummy series
Jurassic Park series

Most Disaster movies

A few other movies, but mostly simply fun movies.

Do not care much for serious dramas, horror, zombie, slasher, thriller, and similar types of movies.

Just my opinion.

I love Hot Fuzz...don't mind the other two. Simon Pegg is a fabulous actor to watch.

For me these are my favorites (not all of them are great movies, but I love them anyway):

Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit
Star Wars
Robin Hood, Men in Tights
The Princess Bride
Benny and Joon
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
Stand By Me
Running On Empty
Tremors
The Hunger Games
Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe
The Man in the Iron Mask (the original)

#6 ·
The Good The Bad and The Ugly (Love Tuco the Rat)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Open Range
Man in the Wilderness
The Dead Zone
The African Queen ( the main characters had the same name as my Mil and Fil)
Just too many to list and remember

Strange Brew
Blues Brothers (the first one)
Star Wars (not the prequals)
Howard the Duck (I find it hilarious)
Poultrygiest
Serenity
Tucker and Dale Vs Evil
All of the Marvel comics movies (I'm still just a geeky fanboy at heart)

I also seem to really enjoy any movie that has New York or LA getting leveled somehow:space

Ok, there is a movie I've thought about a few times and don't remember what it is. The very last line if it is: "This is not the beginning of the end. It's the end of the beginning."

Anyone know what that might have been? I suspect it was something from the 60's or maybe 70's. Probably a sifi / end of the world type thing but I just can't remember.

Possibly:
Beginning Of The End
Day The World Ended

In The Year 2889 (a remake of Day The World Ended)

Although it does seem to be another one somewhere in the back of my mind that it might be.

Just my opinion.

I haven't watched the new star trek films, I loved the old ones and I no way thought that the genre could be bettered by revamping them.
I didn't realize that he had a hand in writing it.
A lot of the best writing he has done is in collusion with Edgar Wright.
I love those three films because it just sums up the English and especially the westcountry attitude.
Pub or a cup of tea.
In the face of danger get a brew on, we will be back in a couple of minutes or hours just depends on who's out there and if they're an idiot or not. And don't forget the pasties.
Or the cornettos.

I have a massive movie collection, but there are only a few that stand the real test of time that can be watched, and are watched, again and again with new levels of enjoyment. For films I require a high level of acting, story, believably, human interaction, or just plain fun, etc.

Here are some of those films and if you've never seen them you'd be wise to check these out. I would rate these films all 5-star with high re-watchability and/or multi-layers of dynamic story and acting.

Holidays:
Planes Trains and Automobiles (Steve Martin, John Candy)
It's a Wonderful Life (Jimmy Stewart)
White Christmas (Bing Crosby)
A Christmas Story

Comedy:
The Three Amigos (Martin, Chase, Short)
Dumb and Dumber (Jim Carey)
Naked Gun 1 and 2 1/2
Old School
Anchorman
Dodgeball
The Big Lebowski
Office Space

Action/SCI FI:
Mad Max and The Road Warrior (Mel Gibson)
Alien and Aliens (stellar cast)
Terminator (Arnold)
Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones/Lost Cruisade (I & III)
Predator (Arnold)
Heat (Pacino and Deniro)
Ronin (Deniro)
Blade Runner (Ford)
Star Wars IV and V (and only IV and V)
Die Hard (Bruce Willis)
The Thing (Kurt Russel)
Conan (Arnold)
Gladiator (Russel Crow)
The Abyss

War:
Band of Brothers (10 part series)
Saving Private Ryan (Tom Hanks and strong cast)
Platoon (Charlie Sheen)
Full Metal Jacket (R Lee Ermery)
Black Hawk Down

Drama:
A Few Good Men (Cruise, Moore, Nicholson)
Collateral (Tom Cruise)
Pulp Fiction
Resevoir Dogs
Rocky (all)
Usual Suspects
Miracle (Kurt Russell)

Horror:
The Shining (Jack Nicholson)
Signs (Mel Gibson)
Halloween
28 Days later and 28 Weeks later

Great list.

To the drama list, I'd add Collateral. Not a huge fan of Tom Cruise or Jamie Foxx but they are both damn fine actors. The afterhours setting in LA just works so well with the music. I watch it 3-4 times a year.

To war, I'd add Black Hawk Down. Used to watch this every few months but just 2-3 times a year now. Also, the original Red Dawn. Few times a year for this one too.

I watch the original Star Wars trilogy once a year too. Same with Alien. Oh add the Die Hard stuff to the list too. Speaking of Die Hard, I always start them in mid Dec here since the second is clearly a Christmas movie.

With all the great movies produced over the decades this is a tough one.

Regarding comedy, hands down the funniest movie comedy of all time was:

ABBOT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN

In the western genre there were so many excellent movies that I am going to say that right near the top was:

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

While Hollywood is the undisputed king of movie making, the Russians made a number of WW II movies that I consider the best of the genre including the classic Soviet flicks:

BALLAD OF A SOLDIER / БАЛЛАДА О СОЛДАТЕ

FATE OF A MAN / СУДЬБА ЧЕЛОВЕКА

COME AND SEE / ИДИ И СМОТРИ

and the more recent 2013 joint Byelorussian/Russian production of:

BREST FORTRESS / БРЕСТСКАЯ КРЕПОСТЬ

I am a fan of the classic horror films and favor:

FRANKENSTEIN (the 1931 original with Colin Clive and Boris Karloff)

DRACULA (the 1931 original with Bela Lugosi)

THE WOLFMAN (the 1941 version with Lon Chaney, Jr.)

Of the more modern horror flicks I would go with:

THE EXORCIST

DAWN OF THE DEAD
