I need to pick out a good reliable muilti-tool for my BOB
and I was hoping for some suggestions. It doesn't have
to be the best multi-tool out there but I want something
reputable and tested.

Any suggestions?

I say SOG paratool most bang for your buck.

Ditto on the Leatherman Wave. Also have a Gerber Suspension, but once you compare apples to apples, there's no comparison.

im looking also and am basing my search on the lightest model with the 3 best critical features to me (blade design and lock, saw, and ease of opening)
leaning towards gerber with their flick opening but still in process

I would have to say SOG. I have an older Leatherman, but the SOG is more comfortable to use, and just as durable, if not more.

i wear a leatherman wave everyday and have for years. great multi use tool. i do one thing though, i magnatize my screwdriver blades and plyers. helps with handling small parts.

I have used the Gerber Multiplier for ten years and it is still going strong.

Gerber suspension,hands down. issued at least 3 leathermans,and they are good, but the gerber suspension,I think,is set up better and feels sturdier.

I've tried many, & experience has taught me to trust any Leatherman.

I have a full size Core, I bought long ago, in my truck. I carry a Wave with me to work everyday and it is used everyday. Never let's me down.

I dropped hints to a couple of people & got two more as gifts last year. One went into my B.O.B. the other is in my hiking buttpack.

I too use the leatherman wave. I like that the knife blades are useable without having to open the tool. I rarely use all the tools, just the pliers and knife blade, but it nice to have them.

I had one of the first gerbers. It was a finger pincher when using the pliers and the blades did not lock into position. Sicnce than they have made great improvements.

When looking for a multi-tool choose one that has better steel for the knife blades and make sure all the blades lock into position. There are a lot of choices out there...the best bet is to be able to handle them before you buy if possible.

A simple, inexpensive (under $30) Leatherman Kick will do nicely, or the Wave if you want to cover even more bases...

The Gerber 600 series multi-tools are really good for the money....got a needle nose and blunt nose pair....both have seen a lot of work....and perform pretty damn good.

Get a Leatherman , they are made in U.S.A. , most gerbers now made in China. Leatherman's can be expensive, but I go by the rule of "Buy quality once ,instead of buying junk over and over." Support your country, buy American.

I have in my BOB and personally love my Swiss Spirit multitool. I can't exactly remember which model but it has everything I need in my environment, pliers, knife blades straight and serrated, file, saw, screw drivers and bottle and can opener plus a reamer. It is small, sturdy everything locks up good and I don't have to open my pliers to get at a tool as all of them are set on the outside of a closed tools handles vs. the inside. The only drawback I would have to say is that the pliers are not a true needle nose.
