I've read so many negative things about Americans in here (and come to think of it, in here...it's mostly Americans who hang out anyway), that I've just got to say whats on my mind.

Most of you - are very decent, honest and incredibly nice people. I'll tell you why I think so. I'm so sick and tired of all this America bashing I hear all the time, so many times... when my personal experience is exactly the opposite of all of that. Sure...there are bad seeds in EVERY country, mine is no exception.

Every time I've traveled to America, I've met nothing but NICE people, people who are MORE than willing to help out if I was totally lost.

Last time, I didn't order a hotel stay for more than one day because I wanted to find some cheaper accommodations on foot (it really DOES pay to do that, because the online-agents charges a FORTUNE for even the cheapest accommodations).

But it didn't go according to plan, I had to walk around for 3 days just to find one reasonable...tourist season I guess...my bad :xeye: you live - and learn...

Here's the thing, I told a lot of people that I was a tourist and I needed a place to stay, many people where calling their friends and family (yes - strangers out on the streets!) to see if they had rooms or a place to rent out, and one of them even told me...hey kid (and I ain't young I tell ya), if you can't find a place...I don't want you to sleep under the bridge, do ya hear me? Call me, if you can't reach me...call my friend instead and he'll get me - I've got an extra room since one of my kids left the house, you can stay there if you can't find anything.

HOW NICE IS THAT?! :thumb:

Seriously, you guys are the BEST! And I'm coming back to spend more money in your country even if I never get a Green Card, because I miss your kind of people SO much.

The negative BS America seems to be inflicted with these days in my opinion comes from our government, not being able to keep their collective noses out of everyone else's business.
America has always been one who, for the most part is willing to help those in need.
I remember here in Austin, when Katrina happened it was amazing how much stuff was donated to help. Not just from individuals but businesses as well. Food, clothes, baby items, even walking canes were to be found. I was on duty on the ambulance at the convention center and watched cars, pickups and rental trucks bring stuff in that had been donated. And this went on for days and weeks.

Yes America has gotten a bad rep but truth be told the people, for the most part are worth their weight in gold I think

I still run on the idea that everyone is inherently good, and I try to treat them as if that is the case. I'm disappointed many times, but that's probably because I'm part of the most hated cross-section of America. Whenever I come out to someone, I usually lose any shot at a friendship or casual acquaintance. There's a lot of fear when it comes to differences here. On the whole - people are nice. But if you even once bring up religion, sexuality, or politics and your view is different than theirs.... whew! Watch out!

Glad you had a good experience. If you ever come to Wisconsin, give a shout. :)

Thank you for a beautiful post.

May I add a few things. Americans are generous people. The most generous people I have ever known in my life (and I have traveled a lot and lived in other parts of the world). Most Americans I know are kind, hard working people. I am grateful for being here and living here in this great country. I am proud to be an American.

Watch Judge Judy for a week and you will see the quality of some Americans. I agree, down deep there is a core of Americans that are good, maybe 10%.

Hahahaha....yeah, I love that show.

But I can pretty much promise you we have our "kooks" too, we have a show in Denmark / Sweden and Norway called The Money Trap (Lyxfällan)...kind of translates to "the luxury trap".

It's a show about our country's own morons that can't manage money, they either inherit a lot of money, live like kings - and take up loans...and live WAY over their means, just to end up CRYING on the "Lyxfällan" show, then there's two personal solicitors & economic counselors that try to "fix" their economy back onto the right track, it's hilarious.

Everything from people who have to sell their Playstation (imagine a 33yo man - crying - over having to PAY his bills and sell is PS3), and a woman crying over not being able to afford a million dollar house plus 1000 dollar shoes (a huge collection)...and she openly says she would feel poor.

TRUST ME! We have our VERY OWN "special-case" people, this is NOT Unique to America. I've visited the US many times, and they're NOT the idiotic stereotypes you find on prime-time television (that only wants to show the worst cases, to entertain us all).

Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money, money and power mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil; and I want you to remember this, that love... true love never dies. You remember that, boy. You remember that. Doesn't matter if it's true or not. You see, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in.

Yeah but they cannot pull in the ratings like most of the morons that are featured on 'Reality Television' these days....

I on the other hand, am former military and also a volunteer EMT.

I've seen some things in this country, and several others.

And my opinion (worth what you pay for it) is that people suck, cannot be trusted, and are greedy and out to put one over on you.

Individually, most people are good and decent.

It's when a crowd develops, that character seems to go downhill pretty fast.
