Ever since I was a kid, I was always fascinated by military survival kits.
Driven by purpose whether it was a kit for a navy life raft, a pilot, or whatever, they were designed by experienced organizations, using the best technology available at the time. It may give some ideas as to the type of things you might want to consider in a kit, as well as a snapshot of history.

1967 Vietnam helicopter pilot survival kit.

This guy does a lot of kit reviews. kind of an amusing personality as well.

I figured it would be nice to have a thread showing photos, videos or lists of the various kits throughout time and the various services.

5 person 1 day ration kit from 1957.

Hilarious! The guy opens something up with a gas mask on. Yeah, that's definitely bad.
Takes it off camera. Munching sounds. Oh yeah. That's really bad.

a minute later making 60 yr old coffee and smoking a 60 yr old camel.. "This is the best day of my life."
Almost broke a few ribs laughing.
maybe RB Ginsberg was watching this video?

WWII lifeboat ration pack.

I'm amazed I can't find any mention on the internet of the WWII desalinator bars that were in the lifeboat kits.
They looked like a bar of wrapped soap. They were dropped into a bag of salt water and squished around a bit and would provide desalinated water.

I've also subscribed to that channel, and that guy seems to have established cordial relations with every military ration /surplus suppliers.

The Vietnam era kit seems a bit overkill for me though.

How does that work anyway? (Is it chemical process or something else)..?
not sure. i read it in someone's Bluejacket's manual from the vietnam war era.

it looked like a horribly inefficient process and did not produce much potable water. Not sure why they even bothered. Just add more canned water.

it was probably so embarassingly bad, they left it off the interwebs.
