Having watched your review it made me think of a few things.

Although the rifle is heavier the barrel to me looks absolutely great, the points about the tapered barrel made me think about something, so far as I know rifling wears out the most or quickest in the first few inches of the barrel. I wonder if this tapering system will reduce this?

The quality of engineering sounds good, I personally if I were to buy the rifle would prefer it to be entirely made in Germany after all they make the best steel in the world and have excellent quality standards as you showed.

The weight may be an issue, personally I thing the hand guard does not need all that weight and perhaps would be best made out of aluminium, I am no expert but I trust HK on this one and prefer quality to weight loss. You only need one good quality rifle, and why settle for anything other than the best?

The allen key for stripping down the rifle seems to me to be the result of HK thinking they can get away with it as its for civilians and sporting reasons. This irritates me, however I would imagine a fellah might be able to adapt some normal allen keys to fit.

Here's the good news. It seems that standard AR15 take down pins can be installed into the rifle. This is something I'll likely do to the rifle. That means I can then ditch the take down tool. I'll probably swap out the pistol grip with a Magpul or something similar. At that point, aside from being a bit heavy, it will be a very nice AR rifle. I didn't know if I was going to keep it or not, but I'm thinking I may keep it.

A bunch of the Feds have them but they never did anything for me a built AR would not. Piston guns are not what they claim them to be. $2500? You can nearly write your own ticket with the very best parts on an AR build or just get a hair splitting JP CTR-02.

HK mags are good for 77 grain bullets, though.

i would like to see what it gets in the accuracy department with some match ammo and a clean bore.

the taper at the end of the barrel is not going to do anything to prevent throat erosion.

it does seem like a solid rifle. but, for all the top of the line machining with a quality optic, it seems like money wasted if it wont group better.

I was surprised just how well it shot with Wolf. I'll take the rifle back out with match ammo (it's in short supply around here) and post the results. I'm sure it will shoot much better with quality ammo.

I’m a huge H&K “dork”. Just about everything I have is from them. And everything has always worked flawlessly. I would love the have the 7.62 version but can’t justify the $$$$$. There are nicer units in the same price range.

That being said word on the “street” is that OBL took one to the head and one to the chest from a HK416 w/ a 10” barrel (entry gun). Sounds like the gun can get the job done and on top of that has a bit of “Pedigree”.

If the Seal Team 6 guys employ them you can bet they are good units.

They don't use the 416's. They use M4's in the shorty 10" model a lot. You can bet they had suppressors, too.
If MI would allow it I would get my tax stamps and have a 10” barrel and can on one of my AR’s. They are so trick that way.

Figures I got bad info on the SEAL thing. Thanks for filling me in.:)

They also just bought the HK 45C for use with a suppressor. Nice choice.
I carry one every day. I’ve even shot a USPSA match with it and despite it being a compact with a short sight radius it worked GREAT! It was 95% as good as my USP45 Tactical that I usually use for matches. I was pleasantly surprised.:thumb:

They are a nice little piece. I can do without the levers. I am foaming at the mouth to try a HK 45 LEM. Sits higher in the hand but it seems to shoot remarkably well. I like the P30 but the 45 fits me better. I had a USP 45 Tactical and liked it but it handled like a box of cereal to me.

I’m used to the levers. But my first pistol was a USP40 and almost all since then have been H&K. My “muscle memory” is tuned into how the H&K’s run.

I agree with you on the Tactical a bit. The HK45 and HK45c fall into my hands a lot better. The grip is a little wonky on the Tactical and even though I have pretty big hands it just doesn’t “fall in” just right. But its other advantages (the trigger being a big one) make up for it so its been a good shooter for me.

That being said I did a match with a friends M&P9 PRO and it was AWSOME! I’ve shot the other M&P’s also. I wouldn’t be broken hearted to get a couple of those in the stable. And the pricing on them compared to the H&K’s is FANTASTIC!:thumb:
