Hello everyone, I'm looking for a good mess kit to take with me on hikes. I'm looking for something that is light and compact but durable. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Are you refering to the boy scout type kit or the solo kit?
Well, we might be thinking of different things. Im thinking of the crappy kit you get at target.

Agreed. They are flimsey. Once you heat them they tend to warp and burn through if you don't watch them. Stick to the anodized sets and you'll be safe.
Hey John, REI does still carry these the duelest ,and soloist bot very well made and have both won awards for gear choice of the year from backpacker magazine..

$60 Yikes! I bought mine for $20!!!

Knowing what I know now, I might have saved up for it. I REALLY like this set up for two.

REI was having a clearance sale. I snatched up the last one out of the bin.
I have this and it works very well for me, it's kinda large in my pack, but it's also kinda large for cooking, so it's a trade off.

I have been leaving it at home more and more, though. I've been making my own cook ware with clay as I go out, it works surprisingly well.
I have the Coleman set that was mentioned earlier in this thread, I love it. Walmart carries it for $19 on the website, have seen it for $25 in the store, but it does all I need it to do, and the smaller pot nests with a 32 oz Nalgene, with just a little extra space.
