Just tried to do Medicare for the first time. Two doctor visits and figured Medicare would pay 80% of them. Nope. Wrong. Found out there's close to $180 deductible that I have to pay first, THEN Medicare kicks in. My bill was $174. I had to pay 100% of it.

Let me get this straight. I paid in for 45 years to Medicare. My total payed in after getting interest would probably be a pool of around $333,333 after compound interest for 45 years. 1/3 of a million dollars. THEN, at age 65, I still have to pay in close to $140 every month for the rest of my life, (I could buy a plan for that amount) even if I never use Medicare. They've got TWO pools of money from me. The gooberment is double dipping on us. And still I have to pay the first $180 myself. Medicare is a bigger scam than what Bernie Madoff did.

And now, the kommunist Dems want to give, so called Medicare, FREE to all illegals.

Seriously, at the end of it Medicare does pretty good stuff, my husband's back surgery cost us about $3K total and that was the operation, a couple days in the hospital, and almost a month in rehab. Not bad considering rehab cost $1,300 a day.

yeah, Medicare doesn't pay for a lot. Retirement articles written about how much one should have saved before retiring often mention anymore that one should expect to spend around $300,000 out of your pocket in medical costs once you stop working.

My Dr. tried to send me to specialists. He is an internist and does nothing but refer you out for tests. He also wants to see me every 3 months and I put my foot down and refused, I said every 6 months is enough but if I felt sick and needed a Dr. I would come in.


Also another Dr. has his office in the physicians building of a hospital and I went in for blood work, Vitals and Saw the Dr. for 5 min, I was charged for his fee but also by the hospital as they said it was an outpatient visit, Looked in my medicare book 2020 this year and it said that this is what they do, The hospital charged my insurance and medicare and I was billed $187.00 by the Dr. cause medicare had already paid the hospital. for the visit as an outpatient.

Look into Medicare C plans: each one (and they are county specific!) will offer some pro's, AND will have something they pay less or don't cover.

If you are on a lot of medications, I suggest you ask your pharmacist which plans would be best for you (at least of medications), then pick from that short list.

Zero premium, ZERO deductible is possible some places... but will NOT cover something. If you are 65, you may not be concerned about prenatal coverage... but if you are a disabled young woman on Medicare it may be a different story!

no premium, no deductible, free generic medications, free health club, but no OB or Psyc. services for example and some large things like transplants not covered. No dental (but some plans do cover dental).

When we moved my MIL (78) in with us her doctor and pharmacy visits were almost a full-time job. 3+ times a week she was going all over town to see a specialist for this or that. When we started taking over her finances and digging into her insurance reports we could clearly see that she was being taken advantage of.

She was on several medications she did not need. Once we got that and her diet straitened out she has felt better than she has in years. She was living a life in a fog sitting in waiting rooms and pharmacy lines. So many of her generation have no idea that they are being used as a money siphon at their own detriment.

My son recently had a sick pygmy goat we took to a local vet. 20min of his time, 2 shots and some pills. $25 for the entire visit. vs the gov and insurance "healthcare" system (and the US system is the best in the world).

This Vet is smarter/more capable than any Dr I've know and has to know about many species vs one (though the goat had not been to WebMD.com and did not have opinions.

Couple of poster have Medicare and Medicaid mixed up. Medicare is 65 and older.

Wasn't optional for dh, my insurance automatically went secondary for him. I bought a "For Dummies" series book as it is a quagmire. I used to know my insurance by heart. It has changed so much in the last ten years I feel clueless.

The sad part is people think they have this "Pool Of Money" from paying into SS and medicare for decades. Like they have a personal account full of all that cash that has been gathering interest for decades.

They’ll only do it if you let them. I’m on Medicare and have never had a problem with my Drs. or a hospital.
I take a few generic drugs and my cost is ZERO. If you’re not on an Advantage plan that cost Zero dollars, why not?

Andy, I had a guy told me he had a bank account, the account number was his SS#. The government had put in 3 million when he was born and then everything he paid into the system went into it, waiting for him to draw on it with old age/disability. He was quite outraged to find (from someone else) it DID NOT work that way.

Your 401K, 501C is yours, but SS? Gone the second it goes out of your check.
