I grow Sugarcane every year and I add it to my neighbor's crop to be cooked it down in December....He has a mule powered press and a tractor powered press.

It is a family and friends day of good food and hard work.
Cane syrup is very tasty...

Anyone else here make it?

I made a quart last year off of 3 taps. This year i put out 30, made a wood fired evaporator, and today, I collected my first sap of the season. Can't wait to boil it down.

Nice job on the evaporator , 30 taps will keep you busy for awhile :D:

We are still waiting on a warm up so haven't tapped yet.

Using a 50 gal drum evaporator and putting out 12 taps in Sugar Maple Trees.

The pan holds 6-7 gallons.

Been up till midnight many times in the past finishing up a batch.

For those of us in the sunny South, in a pinch you can make a good pancake syrup with simple sugar syrup and pure maple flavoring. We never bought commercial syrups growing up, Mom just made it as needed.
Btw, just re-read "Little House in the Big Woods" which has a whole chapter on maple syrup and maple sugar.

My Aunt makes her own imitation maple syrup, I like the fake stuff, was raised on Aunt jemima. :)

But, I just got finished with my second batch, 13 1/2 pints of boiled down tree blood.
