Man, those MAK90's ssssuck! I'll come get it and take to the dump for you. It's not a real AK.;)

The Fiberforce Dragnov stock feels good, and it keeps it legal, I believe.
The SHTF stock would be a Romanian Side Folder. IMO

The Tapco collapsible pistol grip stock looks cool.

I own two MAC-90s with the "toilet seat" stocks and both of them broke in exactly the same place, upper left where it meets the receiver.

They are unquestionably the worst stock ever put on any rifle ever made. They are also not cut for ambidextrious use and are uncomfortable for anyone who shoots left handed.

I couldn't get rid of mine fast enough. I did buy two replacements (cheap, new removals) to be installed if I ever sell the guns, just to bring them back to original (**** poor design) condition for someone who wants and original gun instead of a functional reliable stock.

Bottom line.......they suck and diminished the quality of what is actually a great gun, simply to placate the ignoramuses in the business of the gun control agenda by making a useless cosmetic change so they could "feel good" about doing something.

The original Type 56 was a fine weapon, but it had to many unique parts for my liking, the 23 mm barrel trunnion, and other parts that do not fit a Standard AKM kinda turn me off. But some of them were as good as any Ak variant on the market, especially the Milled receiver ones. I prefer Maadi's and Yugo's myself. Something about "Made in China" that turns me off.

I am a left handed shooter and the thumbhole is not real comfortable. Plus the factory stock was made of real soft wood. It split lengthwise on me after a butt stroking incident (no--really).

Otherwise, it has been a very reliable and accurate weapon (for what it is). I have taken hogs, deer, turkey and varmits with it.

If I had to choose between a classic AK and a MAK90, I would go with the classic just on principle. The only reason I bought the MAK90 was because of the price. I only paid $235 for it brand new in 1996.

I had both the Norinco Mak90 and the Bulgarian SLR95 (I think it was called that). Both had thumb hole stocks because that is all that was legal in my stated. Both shot well and were very reliable. The only reason I got rid of them was because my state limits you to magazines of 15 rounds, so I went back to SKS. I would get another in a heart beat if they lifted the ban.

I left the stock in the butthole original config but sanded it down to bare wood and used dark walnut stain and the standard oil finish. Blends in in the woods pretty well now.

One thing I did do was use a round rasp to custom fit the grip to my hand. Then thined it down with a flat rasp and sanded with a sander and deremel drum until smooth before staining. Its legal and it fits real good. Like you wouldn't believe good.

Like a glove.......scary it would be any good at all huh?

Don't make that cut or you have a protruding pistol grip and need to add the compliance parts. Better to change it all out to the Tapco config at the beginning of the thread, if you want to change. Otherwise open up and reshape that hole so it fits right, and stain it down dark so it doesn't look like a caution sign in the woods.
