This is bad. Doesn't sound like any deaths though so that's good. These shootings have to stop or else it'll give much more weigh to the anti-gun crowd's arguments. I cringe every time I see these reports.

Of course, depending on the race of the student, this may not be a big problem. Am I wrong to hope it's a black person? At least then, it's just black-on-white violence and excused without real comment in the media and will disappear quickly. Not really likely in this case since the demographics say the city is only something like 14% black.

There was a deputy on site that had just been in the cafeteria. If not for that it might have been worse. Hopefully they pass the legislation allowing CCW on school property, even if not in the building.

I am going to go with him not being black.

the suspected shooter as 14-year-old James Austin Hancock, an eighth-grader at Madison Jr. High School. The sheriff said he has been charged with two counts of attempted murder; two counts counts of felonious assault; inducing panic; and making terrorist threats. Hancock, a member of the junior high school wrestling team, is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. today in Butler Juvenile Court on the charges.

Don't be such a bigot. You can't just look at someone and know what race, gender, or species they identify as. :D:

It could identify with a south Vietnamese woman in a wheelchair, with a lisp that is half black and transgender with daddy issues and passive aggressive issues that can provide another excuse.

Not buying it.

Prejudice and bigotry aside, the same points that are always missed in every incident like this seem to go unaddressed.

1. Someone somewhere dropped the ball with regard to responsible firearm ownership. This kid gained access to something he should not have had access to. Period.

2. What does it matter what weapon a killer uses? Would it make the Socialists (aka Anti-Gunners) happier if a machete or kitchen knife, baseball bat or some other readily available tool to do what they did? For every gunshot wound there are twenty stabbings and even more bludgeonings! Won't even get into automobiles...

3. Irresponsible parenting. Nowadays, some, not all, kids have no sense of responsibility and live a "I do what I want and I get what I want" society where anything goes due to a lack of parental guidance and leaving the teaching of social values, if any values at all, to somebody else.

4. Far too many governmentally endorsed liberties granted to those too young to even begin to comprehend the responsibility (and repercussions) that comes with these "rights" and privileges.

Just my opinion...

Assumption until we know the origin of the firearm.

Yes.

This is probably a given.

This makes absolutely no sense and has no impact on this. Fourteen is under the age to legally purchase a firearm.

Maybe the kid's on steroids or maybe he wasn't taking his prescribed anti-anxiety medications.
