I posted on another thread about dutch ovens, but I thought I should put something in this section.

I made bread from a recipe off of youtube. Super simple and very good tasting bread if you don't burn the bottom.:D: I recommend trying this out, especially if you have children or are baking challenged. Someone else did post a link before but now you get to see my bread.:D::D: I changed it a little to use some beer and brown sugar. Check it out.

This is my bread.

Crazy:
The Dutch Oven is so versital, makes pot roasts that are out of this world. Here in south Louisiana it is the mainstay of cajun cooking. Jambalia, creoles, stews, frying fish and oysters.

In my Scoutmaster days we made dutch oven pizza. take a 10" flour tortila and coat it with ragu - cover with the pizza cheese and add peperoni, put the oven on a bed of coals an about 8 min. later "Pizza in the woods".

We used to make that, too, in the Boy Scouts. Also, take canned bisquits and wrap around cheese dogs and roast over a fire, on a stick, until dough is golden brown......ummmmm.

Nice looking bread! I love bread and I'm always trying to find the easiest way to make them without decreasing the quality and taste of it.
I discovered (by accident over a year ago) this method and it is wonderful! then I discovered another method which is very similar and I kinda like it better, Artisan Bread in 5 mins a day.... I am not good at posting videos from youtube... here's the link in case anybody wants to check it out...

P.S. Their book has great recipes, my favorite: Sticky Pecan Caramel rolls (my mouth is watering already!)

That looks awesome. I might try that today. I am making about 4 loaves to take to a friend's house tonight.

Here are 4 loaves that I've made to take to a friends house tonight. The two round ones are Irish soda bread. The other two are a beer bread and some rye bread concoction I came up with. What sucks is I can try them until tonight. How would it look if I showed up with a bunch of loaves that had bite marks in them.

The youtube video has the recipe. It's very easy. Watch the video and you will see how easy. I don't have any experience with dutch ovens and fires except for one. Burned chicken.

Here is a thread you might want to look at. It's about dutch ovens.

I'm heading out pretty quick, but I will try to post it tomorrow. I take a picture of the lid. It is one I bought about eight years ago but never used. It's getting used now.:D:

Well, for someone not so good at posting videos - ya did good! I'm going to try this. Does anyone know what temp. to set the oven on? I saw the oven and it had 375 and 455 - which one am I shooting for?

I love bread but have never been good at making it. I gave up long ago when I ended up with bricks. Maybe I shouldn't have given up so easy.

I have the book, and the recipes are very good. It is VERY easy...once you have the initial dough done, then when you want fresh bread, all you have to do is whack of a "blob" of dough, let it rise, and then bake. What I REALLY like, is that by keeping the dough going long enough, you can end up with a nice sourdough bread.

The only caveat I have is that the recipes all call for UNbleached flour. If you happen to have bleached flour, you can achieve similar results by adding vital wheat gluten to your flour when mixing up the dough.

OK biker, here is the recipe. Are you ready?

3 cups flour
1 1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon yeast
1 1/2 cups water

That's it.

Mix dry ingredients together, add water, slosh around for about 30 seconds. Let it sit 12-16 hours. After it rises, take dough and fold two opposing sides to the middle. Turn 90 degrees and do the same. Take the dough and place it on flour/corn meal (I used corn meal) top side down. Spread some more flour on what was the bottom. Cover and let it sit for a couple of hours. Preheat your dutch oven. The video says 500. That burned the bottom of my bread, I would do 425 and put it as high in the oven as you can. Take your dough when ready and place in the DO flipping it back so top is back on top. Cover and stick in the oven for 30 minutes. Take the cover off after 30 minutes and cook for another 15 minutes. When done, place on a cooling rack(yeah right, like I have one of those:rolleyes:). Final step, devour bread.

I don't know about stove top. Only one way to find out. Give it a try, but I would turn the heat down. I'm new to cooking with the dutch oven. I'm sure someone else might be able to answer your question.

Costco has 2x10# bags of unbleached flour. I don't remember how much. I think $10 +/-.
