I was just looking over the USC about transporting of firearms and it discussed a locked container. Didn't say what the container had to be made out of. While cardboard, cloth, or plastic is a silly option, it seems to fit the legal definition. Given that material isn't specified, it seems that the small Pelican cases would fit the bill when I'm more concerned about overall carry weight and hiding in plain sight than my car getting broken into and rummaged through.
Now, where I'm actually going with this is carrying a firearm either in or for moving to a get home bag. I suppose if the GHB itself were locked, then that would fit the definition, regardless of how secure the bag itself actually is. I don't plan on totally planning for no security, but if I have to drive through Kalifornia and forget to completely clean out my car beforehand, it's worth being legal at a minimum, and I can use other methods for making my firearm container look like it doesn't actually contain a firearm.
With the field wide open, what are some containers (by the legal definition) that could be used to contain a firearm (folding rifle or pistol, size not an issue at this point) or another lockable container inside that one and not provide any clue as to its alternate contents. Examples would be an opaque tire chain bag, a modified emergency compressor case, beach chair bag, sports bag, dog food bag, greasy blanket, mangled basketball carcass, and so on.
I just started thinking about this, and it seems like an interesting idea, but wanted to see if there were any suggestions or criticisms of the idea.
