Several years ago, I heard (radio) a sociologist say most people in the United States live their entire life within 20 miles of their birthplace. That's not to say that a person doesn't vacation far away or travel for employment, etc. The statement was referring to a persons permanent home and residence being within 20 miles. What about you? Are you still close to home or did you stray away?

I live 33 miles from my birthplace.
My doctor today is located at the hospital where I was born.

I left home after high school and ended up living in a state back east where I graduated from Pharmacy.
My work then had me live in four other states, then off to Canada and lastly in southern Mexico.

Retired early from Pharmacy and came back to my roots to to start farming.
I enjoyed the east coast, the mid west, and even chilly AK.

Mexico was a blast, and I still frequent many parts of the main land and peninsula today... baja fishing is superb!!

I lived one year in Toronto, and could not wait to leave... sorry Canada.

I was born in South Texas.

I don't want to live in:

  1. South Padre Island, TX
  2. Santa Ana, CA
  3. West Lafayette, IN
  4. Chicago (But I do love to visit)
  5. Canada
  6. Ft. Lauderdale, FL
  7. New York City
  8. Puerto Rico
  9. Charlotte, NC

...I just seem to keep finding places I don't want to live :

I've zeroed in on South Carolina, way out in the middle of nowhere. The climate seems perfect for passive heating/cooling architecture and land is pretty cheap. I intend on putting together an off-grid homestead.

If I can't find it...I'll make it.

Just kinda curious why Santa Ana out of all the places in CA? Santa Ana is pretty much a ****hole but it also has an "other side of the tracks" area. There is a small portion of Santa Ana that is inhabited by a lot of rich people.
