A few weeks ago I bought a 25 pound bag of rice to store. I ordered the mylar bags and already had the bucket. Because of Ike, my order was delayed 2 weeks. I received the bags and when I opened the rice to start, I saw some little brown bugs walking around. What should I do? Do I have to trash the whole bag?

Contact your supplier and ask them about why your rice came with bugs in it. I wouldn't eat it but that's just me.

take it back to the store. You shouldn't have bugs that soon. sounds like they were there already.

Probably rice weevils.
You can either freeze and tweeze them out.
Or enjoy the extra crunch of "wild" rice.:

Depends.
They won't kill you if you do eat them.
When you boil the rice they will float to the top and you can snag them there.
If the bother you, toss it.
If they don't bag them with O2 absorbers and the lack of oxygen will kill them.

Thanks for the quick responses. I don't think they are rice weevils. They don't have snouts. I see them every once in awhile in my bathroom. I just don't want to waste a mylar bag and a bucket if it's a bad idea to use the rice.

the weavels are ok to eat if your despirate. lack of o2 will kill them. i'd rather send the product back for a replacement though
