I want a light weight shelter that I can daily carry in my back pack that will keep me alive in ultra cold, wet, snowy, icy conditions. Would the para tarp or usgi bivy be better? Is the USGI bivy the best shelter out there for the weight? How does it compare to the adventure medical bivy?

Seems like the USGI bivy will keep you the driest.

I pack a couple of the SOL Thermal Bivvy's in our packs for an emergency situation. They're lightweight and very packable, have never had to use one yet, but it's nice to know they're available if the need arises.

well 2 tarps 100ft of rope...

if theres snow you can use it to build a snow shelter.. good sleeping bag or a fire all night will keep you warm.. a blanket and takeing coals and putting them in the ground can also keep you warm at night.. but it really depends on the area and what clothing your wearing..
