Yup. Winter storm with ice = major power outage in Central. Texas.

Just talked with my son, who lives in the AO. THIS time he has a genset, a two-burner propane stove, an 'extra' propane tank (20lb) and one of those oil-filled room heaters.

Sometimes folks do learn a lesson. He reports the sound of generators can be heard 'all over the neighborhood'....unlike last winter, where only chattering teeth could be heard 😁

Big difference with power outages this time. The outages are all local in nature with distribution lines down from ice. The outages are not caused by generation capacity shortages. This is to be expected with any ice storm, Texas or anywhere else. The good thing is people learned and have those backup generators. I have been running my generator at least twice daily to keep it warmed up and ready.

We are good in my house, in Northeast, Texas. It’s only 34 here. If it goes out, I’ll just get out the goose down sleeping bags. I’ve tent camped in weather that was much, much colder than this. Right now, It’s 31 in Dallas, 32 in Austin, 42 in El Paso, 30 in Amarillo, 33 in Texarkana, 39 in Houston and 42 on South Padre Island. Even by Texas standards, it’s not really THAT cold.

I don’t get it. Some employers around here are sending employees home and some schools are opening late or even closing. We’re witnessing the wussification, of Texas. Grab a jacket and head off to work, school, a movie, the mall or whatever. It’s not that big of a deal. Those of you in the Northern states are probably laughing at what we Texans call cold.

My power went out at some point last night, but it was on when I woke. Wife was yelling at me to move the cars and that a branch had fallen on my truck.

It's the most ice I have ever seen, trees have been snapping all day. I've been outside running the saw trying to manage areas that aren't covered completely by trees so I don't get killed by branches and ice. I've lost so many branches, hudge branches and whole portions of trees.

The power has been fine outside of that one incident, hardly anyone on the roads when we went out to grab some stuff. Not sure where this panic buying is, maybe in another part of the state.

Eek!! 😳😳😳 Y'all be careful!! That's what got me a couple years ago -- an ice-covered tree branch fell on me. I'm VERY lucky to be here.
