Bought a pair of Kaepas back in highschool that I carried/wore for ages. Real, true canvas and rubber sneakers. Loved those shoes. Wore them around camp, hiked in them, waded etc til they just plum wore out. Canvas wore through, hole in the left sole etc. When I looked for another pair a decade back, I found out they don't make real sneakers anymore....they make hightech crap cheerleader shoes. Jeez. Been really tempted to buy a pair of classic Converse's and try them but they're just too pretty.

Get some sneakers.

I hike in Salomon Trail Running shoes. Not just for day hikes and around camp. I have worn my trail runners for the entire John Muir Trail (3 weeks). I used flip flops for camp shoes. Obviously, I am into ultralight backpacking. My pack without food and water weighs in at 16 lbs. If you carry a really heavy pack you may need to have boots and camp shoes.
