I don't see one for my area on the list. I recently discovered a LDS church just down the road from me. I must have driven past it 5000 times, just never noticed it before. I think I will stop in some day and ask about a local cannery and what their policy is with non members.

Every cannery is different, call your local one and ask.

I placed an order in May at the OKC pantry just down the road from the house place but due to back orders it isn't due until sometime in August. Bummer, but hey, the place is spiffy clean and there is always someone there that really knows their stuff from the practical experience side of things.

The LDS Church's official site for information on food storage, prepardeness and community service is http://www.providentliving.org/

For the record in areas where there isn't an official cannery the local stake center usually has all the supplies and equipment for canning. Depends on the area though, best bet is to go to http://maps.lds.org and lookup the bishop or stake president in your area to find out.

Also cannery locations can and do change depending on the resources of the church in that area. It might be a better idea to link to the official cannery location list which is updated periodically as new locations come online and old ones go offline. The master list is located at http://providentliving.org/location
Just click on "Home Storage Centers", if there isn't one in your area try "Deseret Industries". Also frequently the bishops storehouse and the cannery are in the same building, if home storage center or deseret industries doesn't pop anything in your area it's likely the bishops storehouse is the location of the cannery. Either way you should still talk to the bishop in the area so you can go down on the next canning day and help out, you get to can your own order and help those who cannot make it by canning theirs. This is a big help for homebound, disabled and older folks.

Well it's Utah and there are a lot of Mormons, also many of those aren't cannery addresses, they are the address of church operated farms which are used to provide employment for the destitute and unemployed, and the food generated is used to help with the church's worldwide hunger and disaster relief efforts for Mormons and non-Mormons alike.

I'd like to see it made a sticky also. It's a handy reference. And there are a bunch of folks that can't seem to be bothered to search for themselves, so at least it'd be a handy place to point them when they ask.

Also the cannery closest to me have stated that I can just show up if I want to purchase items in bulk bags to take home.

However, I could not imagine anyone just showing up at a cannery because the list I posted did not contain any hours of operation.

That doesn't apply to all of them though. Some are not open to non members. Others require appointments to be made well in advance, etc.
