While on the one hand I love that Americans are seeing through the BS and buying more guns, it slightly annoys me because I had planned to pick up 4 more guns this spring. Here's hoping there isn't a mad rush that eats up supply before the fall when buying will really start ramping up.

 

Oh great, now they are saying its easy to get bomb making materials and that you can get black powder at any gun store or department store.

Apparently someone phoned in the threat to a board member. I am inclined to think anyone who actually wanted to inflict mass casualties would not give a heads up.

ALL the schools? That's crazy!

 

The economic impact of this is likely rather large as many parents will have to phone in for a personal/sick day to take care of their children (terrorism is to inflict economic pain as well - seems like mission success for the day).

Odd that they would close all the schools down for a specific threat.

An "electronic threat" received early Tuesday prompted the decision, school district police Chief Steve Zipperman said, adding that the threat "is still being analyzed."

District superintendent Ramon Cortines explained the "message" referred to backpacks and "other packages." He said many schools were threatened, though none by name. The threat was toward students in schools (as opposed to on buses).

So probably an email or emails sent, not just one call or calls made by a student/s.

Every School in the district is being searched. 640 thousand students affected.

When did the change the names of the schools? When I went, it was elementary (1-6), junior high (7-9) and high school (10-12). Worked pretty well that way..

 

Thats how it was when I was in school. I graduated in 1988. Now its elementary 1-5, middle 6-8 and high school 9-12. But Apopka Memorial Middle School is still the junior high to me.

 

It all depends on the district on how they break up the schools.

 

Interesting to note the response that stuff like this gets whenever a terror event is fresh in people's minds.

This is basically a daily occurrence in LAUSD. But since it is weeks after SB and Paris, people are shaking in their boots that it is "ISIS."

Someone (or teams of terrorists) wanting to actually hurt people would not give forewarning unless it was a diversion to get LE focused on something else or to draw them into one place.

 

You're probably right. But it's also helpful to remember that, at least based on past evidence, a good portion of these folks are rank amateurs - or even just straight-up retards.

As much as I'd want to say "the threat is BS" if in the unlikely event the threat was legitimate, whomever ignored it would later be grilled and possibly even sued personally. For better or for worse, it's safer for the people responsible to take them all seriously.

 

The MSM has been playing down the frequency of bomb threats for at least a few months that I know of. The MSM has not had a story on every bomb threat in my area. We were told the FBI was involved, but nothing further.

Its been over 30 yrs for me but, Elementary 1 through 5, middle is 6 through 8, and high school is 9 through 12. So I think it is by district then and now.

 

LA is 1-6, 7-8 and 9-12

 

Maybe they are getting smarter and this was a test.
But imagine the people taking advantage of the early day going shopping.

In the 80's they started putting 9th grade in the High Schools in Colorado. 6th grade is still in Grade school in the district that I went to. That means only 7th and 8th grade in the Middle schools. To ride the bus, it costs $150 per student per year.

 

NYPD is investigating what they consider to be a hoax school threat in NYC. Apparently the threat was very similar to that in LA, with an email from overseas sent to the NY school superintendent.

 

I'm hearing it was the exact same threat sent to both.
