I'm not a Cold Steel Basher. They make some excellent valued knives.

I would like to see some obvious improvements being made. Such as thicker stronger Bushman. A Recon Scout and Trailmaster with better handle geometry for replaceable micarta type scales. That goes for Kabar, Gerber, etc... Some positive changes are being made. It just seems slow.

My bushman broke.

Ordered the cold steel special forces shovel thingy yesterday. Probaly gonna end up installing a longer handle though. lol.
I have the shovel, it has no cutting edge whatsoever when you get it. Plan on sharpening it with a file, then moving progresivly through stones to get a good edge if you want to cut with it. I wraped my handle with hockey tape and painted the shovel head with camo paint, turned out pretty good, its a decent shovel

The GI Tanto's are shaving sharp out of the box. It is the best knife value on the market. It is fairly simple to put a thumb ramp and sweep the tanto point into a clip.

Start with a fine file and the work in with a axe sharpening "puck". They ship it closer to the dull side for safety, for most people don't expect for a shovel to be sharp. That and depending on your whim, or how sharp you want it . Remember any time you break ground with it their goes you sharped edge just like a axe.

As for their knives their top notch and sharp. As for the machetes I hear that they can use a "touchup" by the puck ant then you got a great machete.

The new cold steel Machete Kukri Knife that was delivered today was made in Africa not China. The blade was nice out of the box. I diamond honed it and it's awesome for $16. The handle is a little bit slippery for me. I wrapped it will some 3m Temflex self fusing rubber tape. Now it has an awesome grip and you don't need gloves. It feels ten times more secure and maneuverable.

I also pickup up a Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel SC92SF with sheath. Awesome but it also needed the Temflex grip and a razor sharp edge that I gave it. You can buy a roll of temflex at Lowes for $2-$3. I wrap my Quad grips and mountain bike grips with it. Nothing feels as grippy as this stuff. I don't blister after off-road riding all day with it. It also has a nice insulating value.

Africa, China, Japan -- what the flack does it matter, it isn’t American, which far too many people believe to be true of all the products that Cold Steel makes, made or will make!

When they opened their doors they were, for the most part, all American--where a piece of steel came from, where it was poured, rolled, pounded or stamped didn't really matter as the final pieces was all made in the USA...now lots aren't even assembled in the US let alone made entirely here--but shipped complete from overseas...They advertised X steel from Y country made right here into Z knife along with all their other knives...

There are lots of posts at the knives forums about the China made knives/steel…It's not that it’s produced out of country but why China? Then charging top dollar for it!

Regardless, he makes some good knives but a lot of severely overpriced for what you're getting knives as well...I can get the same knife, custom made, probably with better steel and handle material for a lesser price than Lynn is charging...

I have quite a few of his older knives (18 with 3 more coming) in my collection but I won't get every piece like I have done with Grohmann, SOG, CRKT etc....What gets me, from a collector's point is that he takes some of his better designs off the market and what replaces it usually has a different styling that isn't as good as the old one and more money…CRKT just keeps adding and then taking away so when you finally get around to getting the piece, it’s discontinued...

A mid dollar knife maker he is, a high end custom maker he's not! Want to make a few limited edition models, fine but taking a regular production knife, polish it a little longer, stick it into another sheath, maybe changes the handle scales and overcharging for it isn't the best business practice...

I like his knives, I have his knives and will/have order(d) some more but you have to watch where the knife is made, shipped intact or assembled or just polished here...It usually says it on the ricasso with Made in XYZ...I don't like Chinese steel--quality, temper--their labour practices--working conditions, salary or by buying something I'm directly supporting their military...

don't do it

keep the handle on it. it is balanced for the spade, allowing it to be used as a throwing weapon. it you install the longer handle it will move the center of balance. and it will wobble, cant, and roll, and you will lose your accuracy
