I bought a Katadyn Vario off of Amazon on March 30th, 2011 for $73.84. Today that same unit is $89.90.

The Hiker Pro has gone up just about the same amount over the last few days.

For those that don't have one, I think it would be wise to pick one or two up while there are still some available.

I wonder if it's just people on amazon trying to capitalize on increased demand as I just checked REI and the prices haven't gone up.

Has there been an official announcement by katadyn about a price hike?

Yeah, that's how Amazon is. Wait a few more days and the price might go down again or it might even increase much higher.

We paid $89.97 at Cheaper Than Dirt for the Vario. We received our Katadyn Pocket Microfilter today and paid $240.00 also bought at CTD. They told me since the Japan earthquake began, they cannot keep them in stock.

You'll be paying a "panic premium" right now, but if your patient bargains can be had.

My plan was to be patient as I don't really "need" one much less right now but I don't see "panic premium" pricing right now. They go for 300 USD and that's what I'm seeing out there.

Well, I said my plan WAS to be patient but I ordered one today. REI had a coupon right now for 20% off any one item and I had a 10 dollar dividend check so I got my Katadyn Pocket filter for 229 USD, not a bad deal, I just couldn't pass it up. It's out of stock but I figured I better order while the price was right with that coupon.

About 5 years ago, I paid $165 for a NIB Katadyn pocket microfilter, on Ebay. Today these same units are going for $369.95!

As inflation kicks in...I think we're all going to be in for a rude shock over how much our supplies are going to cost us. Hell, I went to the grocery store this morning for bread and milk, and the bagels that I was paying $2.99 for...have now jumped up to $4.79!

It's definitely time to start baking my own bread...this is getting ridiculous!
