Just bought this Ka Bar, Model 1279, 14" Machete. Have'nt had it out in the Woods with me yet. Anyone else here own one, and have any comments, good or bad? I don't contribute much the the Knives Section, infact this is likely my first new Thread in this Forum. Just lookin' for some conversation about my newest Purchase.:)
Looks like it will handle the light Duties I bought it for.

I love the handles on that series of knives and a machete made of 1085 sounds good to me, it's also about .168 thick i think which isn't bad. It should make short work of anything you want to chop or cut with it.
How much did you pay for it?
Cheers

$47 online but how much shipping? Shipping generaly runs $15-20 up here so you may not have been as burned as you think. I prefer a shorter, slightly thicker blade but I know some people have even used the crappy Cold Steel Khukri machete to baton with and those are thinner than the .167 of the Kabar.
My favorite from Kabar's machete family is the Khukri, chops like mad and seems to hold an edge amazingly well for the steel (1085 is basicaly the same thing as SK5 so realy not that bad considering my Tramontina is 1075 and it holds a decent edge as well for a $20 blade).
Keep us posted on your thoughts.
Cheers
