Hi,

My name is Alex. I'm planning on doing the getting away from civilization thing soon.

I'm still doing the research and trying to see what all it takes to get it done and still have things like septic, electricity, water, and some of the conveniences.

Currently I live in a neighborhood that is driving me crazy. I work in the school system, and that is driving me nuts too.

I really. Need. To get away.

Sometime soon, hopefully.

This place was refreshing to find. I'm hoping I can find some neat ideas here.

Thank you for having me.

Hi Alex, welcome.

I'd say that you can't have too many magnifying glasses with you but there's some folk here that would tell you that you don't even need that... And they'd be right.
welcome from florida
we're all a little "fed up" shall we say..... alex.

I have some holes in the plan I need to plug, plus I'm engaged, and we both have little roadblocks we have to clear to keep from shooting ourselves in the foot. Maybe I can get her to join here.

House values have plummeted so that I know that most likely I'll have to walk away, unfortunately. But I don't want to do that just yet. Its unfortunate that some neighbors feel the need to BOOM BOOM BOOM half the night.

Anyhow, I'm sort of a city-transplanted country boy who has no business here in Houston.

Someday soon, we'll be able get away from all this.

Hope I haven bored you too much. I'm not procrastinating, but have an order I have to do things in.

In less than a month, I will be 54. I'd rather not make a major life mistake right now if I can help it.

This place is an oasis on the net. Thank you all for the great welcome.

While I agree with the spirit of your post, I have a fiancé I have to collaborate with, otherwise I would have already jumped without a second look.

Some times we have to learn to take the pain and just let it fly on the fence. I have been to the fence many times.

Just realized that was your sig line I responded to. Sorry. Posting from a BlackBerry and didn't see everything.

I've been to the fence too many times. I want this trip to be of my own design. Shoot, last week I saw 10 acres in West TX for $2,500 total with $100 a year in property taxes. Tempting, but I like the woods, agricultural dirt, and good water. But if I wanted to bug out fast, I'd store some food and go there.
