Some ideas:

Food, water, shelter, fire, tools for making/getting fire, insect repellant, first aid kit, Water filter/purification, compass/GPS, emergency radio, flashlight, candles, water proof matches, duct tape, cordage, mechanics wire, solar powerd battery charger, sewing kit, writing utensils/supplies, dust mask/gas mask(S), toothe paste/baking soda, mirror, sharpening stone, solar blankets, canteen/collapsable water storage, nail clippers, scissors, small fishing kit, snare wire, compact trash bags, there are limitless things that you could add small axe, machette, etc. But of course you want to take only the necessities and keep it as light/efficient as possible or divide needed gear among those bugging out with you if you are not bugging out alone. I think you will be surprised, as I was, at how heavy all the little things can get. My bugout bag is an Israeli assault bag that can luckily be used as a back pack.

Best advice I can think of is pack it with the things you have, sling it on your back go out to the woods, mountains, desert, backyard (where ever really)and setup camp then see where you are regarding what you use and what your missing.

Looks good to me. Iv just got a fishermans waistcoat (has 17 pockets) for my BOB. I have a bad back so this will mean the weight is round the body and away from the back (I hope!). I will use this with a couple of light weight hand carriers.

This is the best advice I have read and can't add much to it. You will know what you are missing after 2 - 3 nights. Pick a time when the weather is crap too as you don't want to pack for ideal conditions.

Oh, just make sure any equipment you pack can be accessed and used one handed too. So many people pack first aid kits that are nigh on impossible to open with 2 hands let alone one that if they run into serious strife they will be hard pressed to treat themselves.

I felt before putting it together that you should be prepped for most anything for about a months time. not just 72 hours. The local agencies will not have things back in working order within 72 hours but I give my list about a month. Just be careful how much weight you put in them I had two of them one with about 24 lbs in it and it ripped right at the handle on the first trip I used with it. The other one had about 18 lbs and was fine. I felt I couldnt trust them so I returned them.

I understand and thank you for wanting to share this info with your fellow board members, however I'm sure you'll understand that many are reluctant to reveal 'personal' info and subject their computer to possible viruses.

What I would suggest you do is upload the info into the Forums Survival Files section so anyone can download the info safe and more importantly anonymously.
