It's the BEER, man!

So I was poking around here and even searching. Found a little of this, a little of that but I didnt seem to find anything that touched on this note, and I'm surprised!

After all, there is a section for bartering, a section for economics, etc.

Does anyone here realize how easy it is to make beer and wine?

Does anyone know what sort of bartering tool that would make 8 days into your own personal New Orleans?

Am I way off base here? The tools are cheap. The effort is minimal, at best and the results are greater than you'd find inside a can. Especially after looters hit the place about...oh...3 seconds after they notice that officials are busy elsewhere.

Thoughts?

No.

Yes. But I'd be careful who you were opening up trade with. The types that are so focused on booze 8 days after SHTF that they're willing to trade useful goods for it are not the types I'd be wanting to know where I kept the rest of my stuff.

Well...harrumph. I'm going to chalk this one...and probably a few old posts dug up...to being the new guy.

:)
Yeah being able to brew your own beer might come in handy, you might wanna be quiet about where you do it. Folks might start showing up unannounced.

Asan example, I worked in a liquor store in college. Imagine how popular you would be at 20 years old and have keys to the liquor store? At 0430.

But it's a great idea.
BEEN MAKING MY OWN BOOZE FOR YEARS.. OOORAH!!!:thumb:
Well, yes. It's 4:45 on Friday, the S hasn't even HTF yet, and I somehow find myself out of beer again. I would be willing to trade something at the moment. 6 cold brews this afternoon* & 2 miles to the nearest convenience store don't mix well lol. :D:

*disclaimer - my heat pump is out, so I have to find creative ways to stay cool.

...and the fact that their are no lids. :)
I've got a couple dozen empty 1.75 litre Jack Daniels bottles out in the shop (in cartons.)

I also have a dozen or so empty 1.75 litre Corbel brandy bottles from before they started using plastic bottles.

((( been collecting for a couple decades )))
Uhhh, I brew my own and guess what? Bottles will be the hardest thing to get/keep.....not to mention wort......most folks can't grow their own........

Barley grows pretty well in most places. And a lot of alternatives can brew booze (honey, syrups, etc.)

But I agree with you on the bottles.

Is this the other half of your basement?

I'm not talking years after some nuclear disaster ravages the land and we are trekking along.

More like...the whole...y'know. Nawlins thing.

As mentioned.

Bottles or wort wouldnt be much of an issue. Having what's already kegged would be just fine, I think.

Sure is a fun idea...
Wait a minute here.....

You guys are brewing beer and you didn't invite me? WTH????

Just kidding, but it is a good idea as long as you don't go blabbing your mouth about it to everyone. There are a ton of websites on how to do it at home, I even think the Samuel Adams site has some receipes.
