Hey guys I was looking into getting a gas mask without spending a fortune and found some Israeli ones on Ebay for about $20.00 they also go other places for about $30, does anyone have these? Are they a good mask or am I wasting my money? Id love an American M40 but they are like $450 lol thats not gonna work out so much, thanks!

If the mask fits and the filters are good, you're good to go. They will get the job done. I've got some msa's and plenty of filters but I do own an Israeli unit that is sized for a child. The filters are the business end and as long as they hold out your good to go. They make many adapters that allow you to use different size filters as well as dual filters.

Better is the enemy of good enough, depending on your circumstances.

here's my experience with gas masks. i've done a fair bit of research and i also collect then.

#1 rule of gas masks:

NO EBAY

Also avoid Russian gas masks altogether for anything but Halloween costumes. if you want a good mask and are serious about it then go for a modern MSA brand NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) rated gas mask and filters. Make sure to learn the expiry date codes and avoid surplus. Think about it, would you go scuba diving with non-certified surplus cold war equipment you got off ebay? Then why use the same source for protecting yourself and your family from hazardous inhalants.

Good to know, ya I just assume pay more for something to NOT get it on ebay. Im just not trying to spend a fortune on a mask but I would like to order one. Thanks for the info guys!

every one here just hate the israeli gas masks that are sold on ebay . is this because they are fakes , or because the real mask ( it uses a NATO filter) doesnt work ?? ive got 5 masks from the Israeli Home Front Command to protect my family ( we already get rockets and anti tank missiles here , it can lead to NBC warfare very soon) and i never tested them. can i be sure they will filter chemicals and bio terror ?? ( if it is not enough , i can "borrow" some NBC from the MDA or the IDF trough friends)

The problem is not so much the gas mask it self if the rubber is still good, don't short change on the filters buy the best you can findd

so if i get one from the israeli gov in new condition , sealed , with the original NATO filter there should be no problem right ?? because i think i will have to use it soon.

First why are they selling them??

They may be ok but I would not trust filters, unless I buy them myself.
they may have expiration date.
Better safe than sorry.

Only reason i say that is i worked for a exterminating company in my twenties,we used Cyanide canisters a lot and a expired filter is deadly I almost learned that the hard way.

the israeli government doesnt sell them , they give them for free to israeli citizens like me. the filter is the same used in all the NATO countries . they usually come with one filter, but i would buy a couple more for each mask. (even if the government recall the masks and give them back with new filters every few years)

i was asking if the mask itself is not reliable , not the filter , because its the same almost everywhere

Me personally I wouldn't a problem with the Israeli mask I would get one.

to prevent a black market on the emergency supplies the israeli gov issue to its citizens , you must have an israeli ID to get one .i tried to take 7 masks instead of 5 for my family, to have some backup but the guy at the Homefront Command insisted that the distribution is "1 kit per ID".

israel is relatively safe NOW, but we are in the missile range of the most craziest arab dictators , so now every house ( even appartments) built must have a bomb shelter .
