True that you may not be able to aim very well, and true that it is still a class 3 item requiring paperwork, but as the video stated.... A real silencer is hundreds of dollars.... This is $75. So, no, not "might as well buy a real silancer" some people just don't have that kind of money. I think this looks like a fun not bad idea for a BOB.

So let me get this straight, you're going to expose a oil laden piece of cardboard to high temperature flame and pressure?

Not to mention the highly questionable legality of even talking about this sort of thing, it's called conspiracy gents.

Do the paperwork, make your own.

I do not see anywhere in this thread that any conspiracy is being talked about. There all talking about doing it the legal way. All the paper work would be done and a tax stamp would be paid for. It would all be a legitimate suppressor through the ATF.

As for the oil laden filter, the filter suppressor and screw on cap have already been done and tested. It works, I haven't heard any stories of one catching on fire. I'm sure if you did mag dump after mag dump after mag dump yes it could catch on fire. But how many times will anyone running a suppressor do mag dumps after mag dump on it? You have to be realistic. And even if it does catch fire. I'm sure a napa or advances auto is within a few miles of your places.

The thing is full of oil. When you fire a round through it, oil is going to come spraying out the back right into your face. This works for new unused oil filters, not used ones full of noxious black gunk.

People seem to forget how much time they'll have on their hands when everything collapses and all the computers run out of juice. Cellular devices. Etc. I think you'll have plenty of time to tap a hole in the top of the filter and shake the gunk out.

lol. Come on, how hard can it be? Step 1) tap hole. Step 2) sling back and forth vigorously for a while letting centrifugal forces help the gunk fly out. It doesn't have to be pretty. But it doesn't have to be messy either.

I met the inventor when I was a RSO at a shoot.

After shooting more than a little through it, he let me do a mag dump through a 11.5 AR. Using standard ammo it seemed hearing safe.

The solvent traps are cheaper than the suppressors. Also, they are different shape and color to differentiate at a glance.

Seem to work fine.

Get a remote oil filter adapter plate, drill it and tap it to fit your barrel and buy a new filter, for even less. Sure you still need the stamp but it's not that difficult to make your own. I probably have everything laying around to make one for nothing, but I don't have a need for one so I wont bother.

If you can afford the $200 stamp you can afford a real suppressor. If you can't afford a really nice insanely durable suppressor then you can't afford the ammo to wear it out making it a mute point.

Word I've heard is that you can't technically use more than one oil can as a "suppressor", as changing the actual oil filter would be tantamount to "manufacturing" a new suppressor.

I dunno. It's stupid. The fact that I have to even think about the above statement is proof positive of how utterly retarded the ATF/ US GOVT is.

That's what I've heard as well. I'd like to see an actual letter from our overlords at the BATF concerning it, though.

Any time you are discussing tax stamp items, one must be extra careful as even speaking about violating federal firearms laws can get you charged with conspiracy.

Too many people talk too much about what they have at home, what they can build. Remember that to ATF a rubber band, paper clip and a piece of string can be used to make a machine gun.
