If you had 20 million, what would your fallout shelter look like??

*daydream thread*

If you had exactly 20 million dollars for the sole purpose of building a fallout shelter, what would your fallout 'dream' shelter be like?? Everybody talks about what they would like to do in a so called "dream house", so why not fallout shelter.

Nobody of course will blow 20 mill on a shelter, unless they are the government or Bill Gates (Bill Gates helped fund a heirloom seed shelter in Norway). None the less, small scale ideas can spur from big ones. Here are some ideas that I have been able to come up with~

*Where would you build your fallout 'dream' shelter? Your home state? In the side of a mountain, or underground?

*How big would your shelter be? Enough for you and your family or enough for your entire neighborhood?

*Would you rely solely on prepped foods or would you invest in a major Hydroponics farm?

*Would you have any Ham Radio set ups at all?

*What would you invest in defense? Surface to air missiles (not that 20 mil could buy those) or just a few handgun's and hunting rifles?

*How much ammo would you stock up?

*What would you do for entertainment?

*How would you conceal the entrance to your shelter from the outside.

*How thick would your entrance door be?

*What other supplies would you bring with you?

*What would be your water source?

*How long could you survive given X number of years to live in the shelter?

Added:*What would your source of power be?

I could go on and on, but you get the point.

Another thing you might want to address is what SHTF scenario you would build your shelter for, fallout, invasion, zombies, etc...

*just for fun, so please do not take serious*:D:

It would look like a tropical island that I purchased, hopefully far enough from the tradewinds that could bring contamination.

*Where would you build your fallout 'dream' shelter? Your home state? In the side of a mountain, or underground?
-Underground up the side of a large hill or mountain. Probably in Vermont but more than likely in Pennsylvania where I am from. My family has land right outside of the radius if anything huge hit Pittsburgh. I would be safe, and am in the wrong direction from anything important when people leave the city.

*How big would your shelter be? Enough for you and your family or enough for your entire neighborhood?
-Big enough for myself and my girlfriend to live and raise a family later. Lots of storage room.

*Would you rely solely on prepped foods or would you invest in a major Hydroponics farm?
-Both and more.

*Would you have any Ham Radio set ups at all?
-Yes. If I had that cash I would have a setup for every type of radio I could.

*What would you invest in defense? Surface to air missiles (not that 20 mil could buy those) or just a few handgun's and hunting rifles? How much ammo would you stock up?
-Military issue firearms. I would get as much ammo as I could whether I had a weapon to fire it or not.

*What would you do for entertainment?
-I plan to build a lab/workshop in my house/shelter when I do build it so I would include it for this scenario as well. Basically space to work on radios and chemicals and all the fun stuff I like to do. My girl wants a darkroom. She always gets what she wants . :p

*How would you conceal the entrance to your shelter from the outside.
-Not sure on this. Probably rocks and other things that would not get moved.

*How thick would your entrance door be?
-Probably just over bomb blast width and well under the weight my girl can move herself.

*What supplies would you bring with you?
-Everything I could possibly cram into it.

*What would be your water source?
-Spring and filters and stored.

*How long could you survive given X number of years to live in the shelter?
- I do not understand the question lol. I would survive until I died I guess lol.

Another thing you might want to address is what SHTF scenario you would build your shelter for, fallout, invasion, zombies, etc...

All underground. Tunnels, multiple entrances and exits. I would take the time to factor in every possibility including but not limited to; terrain strategies, what will be left if a bomb hits, etc and I would build everything so I would be well off in as many situations as I could.

I am also a big fan of islands and if zombies hit, SeaLand would be one of my first stops after gathering as much as I could. Honestly with 20 million, I would make a new SeaLand right off of the coast of New England.

JDY, that is a great list. Given the large budget there are a couple of additions I've thought of:

Firearms:
Snapcaps, bore sights, wax bullets and other tools for practice, zeroing and training while stuck in shelter. Archery equipment for post-SHTF possibilities and for indoor practice and entertainment to pass the shelter time (a narrow shooting lane 30'-50' long is all that's needed).
Fitness during shelter stay: Cardio machines that don't use electricity (or powered ones if you want to spend the juice), weight training (wide variety), jump rope, medicine balls, handball, basketball, hackey sack, rock climbing, rope climbing, etc. Enough equipment to provide variety while keeping folks fit and sane during a shelter stay. Add foam swords, pugil-sticks, safety pads and other training aids; they help blow off steam and give a good workout.
Private Areas: For long term sheltering, individuals will need some private time away from the group just to stay sane. If you've got the budget, make some areas for quiet reading, DVD watching, navel contemplating, whatever.
Projects: Nothing fills the endless hours better than having some kind of project for people to do. Sewing, knitting, wood carving, leather work, Make-your-own-battle-harness-kits, electronics build-a-kit, painting, model building, knife-sharpening, knot tying stations, flint knapping, etc.

if you had 20 million you would not need a fallout shelter,
because you could choose to live in an area where it would be unnecessary.
