Now dont worry about water being one of the 10. What 10 foods(or ingredients)could someone stockpile, over and over again that would be nutritious and also able to go together with other foods on the list?

wheat
rice
honey
salt
dry milk
beans
peanut butter
Tuna
canned tomatoes
and maybe some jams

I would use all of these plus fresh meat and vegetables.

can we make it 12?

coldworld, thanks for this thread. I was thinking about posting the same question, although I'd ask for 12 foods because I'm going to set-up 12 storage buckets, with the idea that with all of them together I could get through a year.

I think.

I'd put 'almonds' somewhere on the list over peanut butter, if only because I can't eat peanut butter without milk & while its great to have the foods work together, I wouldn't want 1 to be completely dependent on any other.

great items dayliterun. Im trying to narrow it down to 10...or 12 :thumb: items that when i go to the store i dont have to think very hard about it and they dont interfere with my normal weekly food. This isnt going to be a 10 year stash for me...so variety isnt too important. Im looking to build a 2 month basic setup then maybe spread out a little to include some other types of items.

This is a real thinker....

Rice
Pinto Beans
Flour
Beef & Chicken Stock or Bullion
Dehydrated Potatoes
Mixed Nuts
Oatmeal
Powdered Milk
Noodles
Dehydrated Fruits

If I could go with 12 I'd add
Assorted Spices
Sugar

Great thread. I was thinking the 12 pails also. You see the video's of people putting all their grain in one pail and I was thinking it would be better to put wheat berries, oats, cereal, dehydrated foods...anything...in each pail so that you only have to open 1 or 2pails per month and not have to open several pails, remove what you need and reseal them (especially if there's a situation that would not allow you have the necessary items to seal properly.)

I've been putting my list together and it looks a lot like everyone elses...
wheat berries
oats
beans (wheat + bean = a complete protein)(add ground beans to bread or tortilla)
shortening
powdered/canned milk (preferable milk producing animals)
peanut butter (jelly would be good)
rice
canned meat (tuna, salmon, ham,chicken)
sugar
salt
11th-coffee
12th-spices

On first thought just a large stock of dehydrated mixed veggies, a mix of sup beans and a variety of meats.

Thinking about it more, I'd add:
Corn, Wheat flour, rice & variety of pasta.

I like to buy frozen mixed veggies at Costco. You can get a large bag for around $5.00

Then I put them in my oven spread out flat on a cookie sheet, set at the lowest setting it will go, and dry them for about 8-9 hours. You can get a lot of highly dense nutrition in a very small space that way, and they make an awesome veggie soup when mixed with some sort of soup bean, barley and meat.

You can dry meat to make Jerky this way too. Mix the two together for a nice beef & veggie soup.
